Coworker has a daughter that interned for the Royals in the media department last season. She spent most of the home games taking video in one of the of field camera boxes by the home dugout. They hired her fulltime after the season was over. The day after she got the job the Royals told her group they had 2 weeks off paid over Xmas, just keep your phone on if you are needed. Right now she's in AZ covering them. She spent half an hour yesterday talking to George Brett.
Talk about a dream job. |
I know when many of the ballparks moved to the city or downtown area, those areas improved overall.
Pittsburgh, Detroit, Baltimore, Washington DC, San Francisco I believe most are still a positive experience. |
Baltimore really has a nice place

There is not remotely the same as the argument of I'm not a fan of public money for private profit or funding a billionaire's stadium, it seems a lot of people are fine funding a billionaires stadium if they have parking spots and it's in a suburb. |
Will they grandfather in rent and real estate taxes to not increase for current residents of the area? That sounds logical.

You would really have no idea someone lived in a city of 2.5 million people listening to them complain about parking garages and traffic and one way streets... but it's a major topic of conversation if you're ever at an event downtown or even on the Plaza with people who don't often go there.
You would really think they all just drove in from BFE Kansas or someone had grabbed an uncontacted tribesmen from the Amazon and dropped them off at Times Square... but nope, live in OP and just cannot fathom getting around downtown and finding a place to park. |

KC Tenants came out against it, so you know it's a good thing when those idiots don't like something

Let that stir around in your brain. Also know there's a sniper nest at Empower. But i haven't found it yet. |
A little over a month til the vote & theres still no rendering from the Chiefs. MODOT still hasn't approved the cap for that side of the highway either.
It would be pretty stupid to vote for this as it's rushed and not clearly planned out. |

Wanna fill out my ballot? |
I've always thought that they should have built some cool district where MODoT is near the stadiums. That was lack of foresight.

Seems pretty obvious that Shermans plan is to flip the team into making himself a big chunk of money.

Idk if it’s worse, but the OKC Thunder have a giant “Love’s” patch on their jersey.
Tbf though Love’s are pretty nice as far as truck stops go. |

Speaking of parking and downtown stadiums - parking in the KC Current's gravel parking lot is apparently being billed to season ticket holders at $68 per game.

You just Uber or walk right to the stadium. It’s so simple
Hop on the street car |

I’m guessing this is what happens a lot when it’s freezing or hot as hell out. Maybe they’ll start charging for it and that will change Mecca would have shed a tear for the dude and gave him 20 bucks I’m sure |
There is no way this doesn't pass. It's no extra money, so all that's happening is instead of paying for the upkeep of a stadium in Raytown you're paying for a brand new ballpark in down town KC and getting all kinds of new businesses along with it. Don't really see the down side, besides I guess some people might have to walk a little further.
|
If you don’t go watch the women’s soccer games and pay for the parking its probably because you’re sexist tbh

You'll get way more concerts.

The soccer stadium does look cool coming across the river. So it’s got that going for it

Don't get me wrong, I'd like it if KC had more transit options, but if they aren't going to keep it clean and safe people aren't going to use them. |

crossroads spot makes too much sense. way more attendance in this location. tons of extra people who might go early/stay late to hang downtown or crossroads. tons of new jobs to take care of all the additional spenders which increases tax revenues for the city. extra money made by royals increases payroll so we field competitive teams that increases attendances even further.
if people are against crossroads location, they hate our city. |
Quote:
Your average Mayor Q voter ^^ |
you prefer locations that give our city fewer jobs and less tax revenues for city programs? why? crossroads location would undoubtedly be better overall for the city.

I've been informed this downtown stadium will naturally usher in an era of prosperity so we'll all be so busy watching winning baseball that won't matter. |
The integration with the south loop park that was planned before this announcement is legitimately exciting. We'll see if that thing gets kicked into turbo if this passes. 2026 WC was thrown out originally when that was proposed.

also i get if people are against bc they don't like subsidizing billionaires in general. and i get it if you don't like this spot bc of personal reasons. was being hyperbolic in original post - just meant they'd be prioritizing personal stuff over the greater good of the city/community. which everybody does. |
and i'll admit my bias - i want the royals to have a good team. they'd make so much more in attendance/revenues at the crossroads spot than any other so they could finally pay enough in salaries to be relevant.
added bonus is increased jobs/taxes to make my city better. |

i love the diverseness/indie spirit of the crossroads as much as the next guy. and maybe a little bit of this goes away but it will really benefit all the breweries and the good local spots. will be way better for KC if this goes through. |
I think it's a great thing to happen. Opposing fans will enjoy the improved downtown area while bringing in cash into the area. Welcome everyone but hope they Royals win.
|
i understand if total progressives or i hate all business/giving tax dollars to sports franchises hate this bc they are idiots...but there are actual chiefs/sports fans or normal regular people that don't like this? blows my mind. it's the best thing this city has ever proposed. have you guys looked at the images and how cool this will be for our city? just have realized many people are stupid and don't want change. they should move to small towns where they don't have to worry about parking.
|
It wont do jack squat till they get real ownership that is serious about winning baseball. Shyster Sherman ain't that.
