I put this in your other thread but if you want to save a little...

Look for a WASR-10, Romanian will do. The wood sucks on them but you can change the furniture out fairly cheap. The internals are pretty solid.

Decided to go with the VEPR instead. I'm just a sucker for shotguns. :D

The Springfield Mil-Spec is a nice gun. I used to have one, but sold it a few months ago. Probably should've kept it. I don't have any experience with the Remington 1911's.

Are you aware of the Remington and Springfield rebates going on right now?

That Mil-Spec is a great gun to start with when you are building something custom. Remington 1911's are decent guns for the money. Ruger makes a good one as well. I have a buddy in Alaska who killed 5 or 6 deer with his last year.

So, I kinda have new gun fever. I have about $1000 saved up so far to put toward a new hand gun. Any advice at all is appreciated, the only criteria I i want met are:

Full frame
9mm
15+ capacity
Threaded barrel

So far I like the HK USP tactical and the Beretta m9a3. Anyone familiar with either of them?

I love H&K pistols..reliable, good shooting, like the way they feel in my hand..so that would be my choice

I hate Berettas..with a passion..probably because we had the real shitty military version when I was in the Army and they were junk..so I am biased on that side

If you can go to a gun range somewhere and rent them to see how you like them I would do that..if not go with whatever you feel like will be the best for you

I've owned a 92a1 before and thought it was a beautiful gun, very accurate, but just a bit big for me. Going by the photos of the a3, it looks slimmed down a tad. I do miss my Beretta.

I've also heard that former servicemen either love or hate them, based on what condition their issued one was in. My vet friends are 50/50 on em it seems like.

I've never shot or held an HK pistol, but I've heard that the USP tactical is a great gun, it also has a nice $1200 price tag on it. I've been looking for an HK dealer in that has one in stock around the Lawrence/Topeka/KC area, but no dice. I'd like to shoot one before I spend that kind of money on it.

notorious 12-22-2015 10:10 PM

I own a Berretta 92 FS and like it, but I got to shoot a surppressed FN 45 and it was awesome.

The Berretta's grip is huge, so if you have small hands stay away.

2400 for the FN setup, though. Ouch.

I've never bought from the CMP, but intend to some time this year. I'd like to add a couple of M1 Garands to my collection. You really can't go wrong with whatever version you buy. You can also make a road trip to their stores in Ohio or Alabama and pick out your Garand in person. I think they have a limit of 6 guns per year.

And they sold out of the M1 Carbines in 1 day. Hopefully they'll get more.

My hope on the 1911s is they don't auction off the entire allotment to the highest bidder. My uncle came back from WWII with both his M1 and 1911. The one time my Dad and got him to talk about them he said they were going to be donated to a museum upon his death. Sucks but I can understand his reasoning.

Yeah, I bought a DPMS 308 a while back to go along with my AR15. I absolutely LOVE the 7.62 platform. DPMS gets a bad rap but I don't really understand why. Mine (the AR10) so far, is accurate as hell out to 800 yards with a good scope. Just be careful with your new gun. Don't be one of "those" guys with 18 pounds of crap on yours. :)

Also, Palmetto State is a good place for parts should you need them.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with DPMS.

One of my most accurate rifles has a 16" DPMS bull barrel. 1/2" all day long.

My father owns a 24" DPMS .308 Bull. Thing is a ****ing tack driver.

I recently purchased a .260 DPMS 24". Still breaking in the barrel, but it looks very promising so far.

Here is a video of me shooting a AR-10 with a 20"SASS barrel last summer. I hooked my Iphone up to an adapter on my spotting scope, and the result is pretty cool. You can see the shockwave of the bullet all the way to the target.

It's not my most accurate gun, but it will nail a plate out to 600 no problem.

Perineum Ripper 02-12-2016 05:48 PM

Awesome video man

So I got a good deal on a 1911 R1 Enhanced about a month ago..$600..been shooting it with all kinds of different ammo..putting it through its paces since it will become a carry gun for me

So far it has been flawless through close to 1200 rounds..all kinds of ammo..factory loads and hand loads..FMJ and hollow point..self defense rounds..no issues feeding or ejection

I have just broke it down and wiped it off lightly and little bit of oil after about each 200 rounds..I guess it's a slight torture test to make sure it holds up

And it turns out that Eotech is allowing anybody to return their holographic weapon sight for a full refund, plus $15 for shipping costs. I ended up filling out the form on Monday, got approved today (for the full amount that I paid for it last year), and will be shipping it back by the end of the week. It seems that some people are being asked for a copy of their original receipt, but they didn't ask for mine. Just be sure not to ask for more than MSRP, otherwise you might get denied.

If you want to return your Eotech red dot for a full refund, fill out this form:

In the "description of failure" section, just write down that you want a refund of X amount of dollars. You don't even need to give a reason.

Well, I got my refund check today! Now I've got an extra $400 burning a hole in my pocket.

For conceal carry the last few years, I've been switching between a tiny ruger LCP .380, an old bulky Ruger P90 .45, and a full size Kimber Crimson Trace .45.

I kinda wanted to revamp my conceal carry options, and get something in between the tiny LCP and the bulky P90. So, I went to the store the other day and bought a Springfield compact XD Mod 2 40 S&W and a compact Kimber 1911 Stainless Steel Ultra Raptor II.

I'll admit that the second one isn't all that practical as a conceal carry since it only carries (I believe) seven rounds, but I've always loved how the Raptors look, so I kinda had to have it. The Springfield is at home right now, but here's a pic of the Kimber Raptor.

Set up a wikiarms alert for 22lr at 9 cents or less. When you get the alert, order right away.

It did not. Probably going to have to go drop another $20 on an extension.

Anybody have any .30 cal bullets they don't need anymore and want to sell?

Starting to get the hang of reloading 300 blackout and looking for more stuff. Converted brass is cheap; 1680 and H110 easy to find online.

BTW, progressive presses are not as nearly as hard to learn as people say. IF I can do it, anyone can do it. Calibrating the primer insert was the hardest part. Hornady LnL does not give feedback that the primer went in.

Getting ready to sell a kidney as to pay for a .30 cal can.

Why are they $900?? Anyone have any recommendations or reviews?

Signing up for a Trust. Gotta figure out which online kit to buy.

thanks

I've been thinking about getting a .30 caliber can, along with a .22 can. I think one reasons they cost a pretty penny is because many of the .30 cal (and 5.56) suppressors come with a fast-attach muzzle brake or flash hider.

I like what SilencerCo has to offer, especially the Omega and Hybrid.

Specwars test the best for sound suppression. They aren't the lightest, or the smallest, but the best for the job they are supposed to do. Search on Youtube for reviews of nearly every suppressor made.

I just got my stamps last week, and a Specwar 7.62 is waiting for more muzzle brakes to come in. I also got a Sparrow .22.

Get your paperwork going before June. Obama's executive action comes into power which will require each Class III item to have to have your name and fingerprints. They are doing away with Trusts in other words, but anything before June will be grandfathered in.

I am going to transfer a couple lowers to SBR and, get a Harvester for .338LM, and order an Osprey .45 which can suppress 9mm, 45's, and 300 blackouts (subsonic).

OK, need some advice.

I just bought my first AR, DPMS Oracle. I would like to take it hunting this fall. But the more I read about the pros and cons of deer hunting with this rifle, the more confused I'm getting. It seems there are those who say don't do it (too light of a round, better off with a .30\.30, which I shoot now) and those who say do it (accurate shot, flat trajectory etc.) I've been looking at ammo, and Hornady makes an American Whitetail in 60 grain. I shoot 170 grain in my .30\.30, so obviously a MUCH lighter round.

Any suggestions? Should I post this in the Hunting Type Things thread?

Thanks fellas.

Unless you are planning at shooting at deer at 300 yards or more, I'd stick with the .30/.30. Or, sell your 30/30, buy a .270, and you can hunt deer at any distance and have your fun gun with the AR. Lots of guys hunt with AR's though. The round is fine.

Hunting with an AR-15? Are you crazy? You'll blow the deer into pieces.

Eh, I hunt white tail and mule deer with 30-06. The 30-06 is a MUCH more powerful round than a .223. Don't think that would be a problem.

http://img2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb2..._223_30-06.png

30-06 looks like .50 cal ammo compared to .223.

You do realize AR-15 isn't a caliber. I got a 6.5 creedmore on one of my AR's that would work great on deer.

lol. I know what 5.56 and .223 will do to a deer.

Some of you need to tune your sarcasm meters.

I guess i need to post more in this thread.

And the .50 cal is just an "enlarged" 30-06.

I don't know why the military got away from the 30-06. It's a hell of a round.

Maybe if you had said that the deer would break apart in midair...

Anyone like 1911's. This looks like a pretty good deal on a Remington 1911 R1 Black .45ACP 5-inch 7rd Walnut Grips. Has me really pondering.

That's a good price. But I'm pretty sure they charge 3% extra if you want to pay with a credit card.
