I'm about 5 years into retirement and have made 'puttering' an art form. A series of low key household projects sprinkled liberally with internet perusal, the planet, word puzzles, etc.

A couple years after I started working, the plant manger for our manufacturing facility retired after 35 years there. He was the original manager of the plant - it was pretty much his baby and he had poured a lot of effort into it. Anyway, about months after he retired, the office got a call from his wife, asking, "Is there anything Bob can do out there? Anything?" lol

Wondering at what point my wife will be calling someone to come take me off her hands....or get me away from "fixing " things.

Congrats and go on a trip Spokane Washington is nice this time of year.

Yeah...the odd thing is that I traveled so much for work that going West to the coast has no appeal to me at my age. Probably won't travel west or Bentonville where my daughter and son in law live.LMAO

I'd go crazy if I retired.

We will see in 10 years if I feel the same way.

Enjoy it, man. My father retired years ago and he's handling it great. Has a lot of hobbies, keeps occupied. My mother, not so much.

Congratulations and after 48 years, it sure sounds like you more than deserve it!

The only advice I have heard from nearly ALL my retired friends is be careful of the Home Depot addiction.

You have all this time, you see a few minor things you want to update, upgrade or fix at your house and you head to Home Depot. It starts innocent enough and you're there maybe once every 10-14 days and don't spend too much. Suddenly you are there every other day and you are racking up $1,000 visits like water.

Before you realize it, everyone in the store knows you on a first name basis, you've been named Customer of the Month and Visa card just upped your credit limit to $50,000.

ROFL

Congrats!

Speaking of Florida, my dad retired to The Villages and while I might change my mind in another 15-20 years, it seems like my kind of retirement life (well, except that it's in Florida). All kinds of stuff to do... softball leagues, bus rides to a different beach every week, live music, etc.

I'll be 68 in June...was 66 when I had my heart attack. I had planned to work till I was 70 originally but that health scare accelerated my time table. I would have retired sooner but they had problems finding my replacement. Seems no one wants to work Hybrid anymore....

Look forward to meeting up to watch games

My wife is 2 years younger than me...she is in great health and probably will live till she is 90. She works part time and loves it.

I plan on keeping busy...

Congrats my man! Happy for you! I’ll live vicariously for just a bit longer.

I love retiring here in Florida...was what we planned to do anyway. But the nice part was the company paid to move me here 7 1/2 years ago.

So much to do...explore....and a lot of beaches to sit and relax.

My wife’s grandma died at 92. Her mom is alive and kicking at 92. So she's probably going to outlive me.

Best advice is to not discuss getting out until your release date or one of your co workers might try to start a fight and get your release date moved back
