Came up in my Twitter feed. I didn't know this info. Didn't Gremlins come out years after Star Wars? Why wouldn't he be accused of ripping off Yoda?

Gremlins came out in '84, long after the debut of Yoda in ESB in '80.

Outside of being little, with big eyes and big pointy ears, I don't see it. But I agree, if Dante is lame enough to whine about this, then I guess Lucas could whine right back at him. Although Lucas probably has better things to do, like dive into his swimming pool full of cash.

I was thinking $4 billion will create a big pool to splash around in.

Goggle’d the deal.

George only got $2.2 billion in cash. The rest was in Disneys stock. Which was a wise choice. As of right now, Lucas has made $10 Billion off the sale.

Disney passed the recoup of the purchase price in 2018. It’s now all profit since then.

This is why:

The “Gremlins” franchise is returning this fall thanks to the HBO Max animated series “Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai,” which Dante served as a consultant on.

https://variety.com/2022/tv/news/gre...ed-1235317121/

The guy is desperately trying to make Gremlins relevant and is trying to cash in on the popularity of Baby Yoda to do it.

I'm still pretty disappointed they couldn't figure out how to tell a story without Grogu so they brought him back in.

Then again, when you also have to fire Cara Dune because...reasons...that kinda cuts off that avenue.

Grogu had to be for one reason, and that was for the cash.... Because the Mandalore story is prime to be incredible.

The Cara Dune saga is hilarious when you see how WB is handling Ezra Miller.

Yeah, it's weird. I wondered if they'd "uncancel" her like they uncancelled James Gunn. Apparently not. Apparently saying tyranny is bad is worse than whatever Gunn did. I don't even remember.

I'm not up on all my cancelling. What did Miller do again? And is he still Flash?

Bowser 01-18-2023 11:52 AM

Gunn and Miller both got caught up in the audio thing, iirc. I have zero idea what Carano did* that was so much more egregious than what those two idiots did when compared side by side.

Ezra Miller went extra with it by adding in an all-world drug meltdown when confronted. Again, IIRC.

Its fresh in my mind as my MiL was here for the holidays so we rewatched Mandalorian since she'd never seen it. We got to the end and I was like where the **** is that scene and googled it which reminded me it happened in Bobba Fett.

Which makes things a bit awkward because I'm guessing InChiefsHeaven hasn't watched Bobba and I just gave away the finale with a Mandalorian story line.

The first half is about Boba Fett. Then the Mandalorian shows up and steals the show right out from under him.

Gadzooks 01-18-2023 06:44 PM

Mandalorian had to steal the show. The Boba Fett story line was shit and they needed Grogu to save the series from tanking. (women and kids love Grogu...)
Boba Fett's story sucked because the majority of hard core, older, Star Wars fans never imagined him being from New Zealand until Lucas shit all over his great trilogy with the prequels.
A major part of the allure of the character of Baba Fett is the mystery of a cold blooded bounty hunter.. To flesh his character out/ humanize him, is to ruin the character.

A character like that is doomed to fail as a lead. He honestly was perfect as a supporting character in Mando.

Grogu's great. He's why my 7 year old brother and my students love Star Wars as much as I did and my parents before me did.

But there is a pretty loud part of the fanbase that is convinced Disney intervened to keep him in the show, especially with how the Book of Boba Fett got hijacked to become Mandalorian: Season 2.5 to cram Grogu back into Mandalorian before the next season even aired (completely reversing the events of the finale).

Boba Fett needed to be rescued.

This was fan service? An old benevolent Boba fighting for the citizens of a dusty city? We wanted Boba that we knew 20 years ago. Not badass lite.

Just basing this on what you've posted:

They should have consulted with Clint Eastwood on how to both humanize the character a bit and keep the mystery/aura at the same time.

I think the problem is that this WAS their plan for Boba. Then Disney didn’t allow them to use Boba and the Mandalorian took Boba’s place (originally Mando was going to be the Boba Fett show).

Then the Boba movie got canceled and they were allowed to use Boba again. But how do you make a Fett show that retains his mystery without it feeling like a pale imitation of Mando? They clearly didn’t figure it out.

I think the theory is that Disney didn’t want to let Grogu out of a their prized SW property, rejected the ending to Season 2, and forced Filoni’s hand to get Grogu back in Mando by the time Season 3 rolled around.

Frazod 01-19-2023 07:31 PM

Well, they did have to find a way to separate Grogu from Luke and extract him from the events of later films.

It is just funny to sequence it out.

Mando Season 2 Finale Luke: "Talent without training is nothing. Grogu must be trained."

One episode of Book of Mando Fett Later: "Eh, Grogu's good."

I need to read up on that.

If you haven't watched Book of Boba Fett, some of it could be confusing.

I thought it was a decent episode. A little slower than I expected.

As others have said, you should watch 'The Book of Boba Fett'. It's basically 'The Mandalorian' season 2.5.

I don't care for it in real life, and I don't care for it in my entertainment, either. My biggest problem with DS9 was how everybody had to constantly tapdance around the Bajorans and their silly religious crap. That show didn't get good until that aspect took a distant backseat to the Dominion War.

I’m ok with it so long as the arc of the story is him ultimately moving away from the cult. And given that he has taken his helmet off once before, I’m hopeful that is where they are going with this. If not, then yeah, it’ll get old and stale.

I get it, man.

Of all the things man has invented, nothing has been more destructive than religion.

Nothing is more dangerous than true believers justifying actions through their religion.

The Death Watch is a religious cult, after all.

I kind of see him spending this season gathering the non-Death Watch Mandos to complete his cult-y quest, and over time realizing it is bullshit.

But put yourself in the shoes of Djin Djarrin. He was saved and raised by Death Watch nut jobs. He’s a true believer as a result because that stuff is ingrained in him.

Fish 03-03-2023 09:52 AM

Yeah, I kind of get the impression they're trying to show that Mando is starting to see his cult origins for what they are. Even the Armorer showed a brief moment of acceptance.

Buehler445 03-03-2023 12:01 PM

I personally think the religious cults/pragmatic leader conflict between the Armorer and BoKatan Mando faces is pretty fascinating. I'll be disappointed if they don't dive into the conflict, even if it's some Disney-fied outcome of everybody falling in behind Mando, the conflict of belief is the important part.

Looks like they're diving headlong into spending money here. Shit looked good.

Let's ****ing go!

Your gonna smoke a turd in hell for talking like this.
I joke

Agreed. That's where this is gonna end up. Also, I'm sure Pedro Pascal doesn't want to act with a helmet on for the rest of his time on this show (and this show looks like it's gonna have a pretty long run).

You're probably gonna love S3 of Picard.

Yep. Read something that they really don't have an endgame for this so it's going to be a lot of 'danger of the week's type scenarios.

UPDATE -

Katee Sackhoff is still hot as balls.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. Battlestar Galactica was nearly 20 years ago now, and she hasn't lost a step.

that space battle was utterly spectacular

love the design of the pirates and reintroducing not IG-88

giant hyperspace whales from rebels showing up is going to be intredasting

4K is ****ing NUTS! and i'm not sure if it's the audio processor on the new TV, or the fact I had to run the speakers through an optical cable for the first time (old vizio used 3.5mm to RCA stereo cable), but the sound design was utterly banging like never before

well, speaking of endgames...

https://www.polygon.com/star-wars/23...ka-ezra-thrawn

the whales seem to potentially point to the end of rebels linking up with mando and the ashoka series...which basically means thrawn...which means, essentially, live action heir to the empire

favreau literally running an end around on kathleen kennedy's awful sequel trilogy, as predicted....we already got luke back, can super duper cgi han solo be far behind? :hmmm:

Hammock Parties 03-08-2023 02:55 PM
