Brent Crude dropped to below $40/bbl this morning. First time it;s been below $40 since 2009. Some Analysts believe crude could get to $20 in 2016. I think they are off on that, but I don't think it's out of the question that crude could dip just below $30 for a short period. WTI is trading at ~ $37

I think we are looking at $25 a barrel in 2016.
Gas $1.61 this a.m.

The only issue I worry about is the scoundrels in DC all sticking their slimy paws in there to steal money for their other pet projects and causes, just they did to the Social Security Trust fund with no money in it because they ass raped it.

Year 1: .25/gal
Year 2: .20/gal

My state took advantage of the lower prices to push through yet another big increase in the gas tax. I believe we are the highest in the nation now.

Not that the roads are any better for it. :shake:

They probably just decided to raise the tax for general purposes as opposed to a dedicated tax. That's what most of the political scum love to do.

The amount of roads that have been repaved here in Northern Virginia is nothing short of astronomical. I think it's at least 3-4 BILLION dollars worth.

They are repaving everything.

Yeah, they always present gas tax increases as "for the roads" but nothing really happens. I am having to drive to Seattle fairly often now and I-90 over the pass into Seattle is embarrassing awful. :shake:

Gas taxes hit the middle class harder than anyone--they use the most gas.

The gas tax is the most equitable tax on the books, and it hasn't been raised since the 90s. Nor was it indexed to inflation. The highway trust fund is one of the few things that Congress doesn't routinely raid as every Member in every state gets a piece of the pie as it is. There are earmarked projects and shit in there, sure, but on the whole getting a highway bill done is a HUGE deal. And using the gas tax to pay for it is absolutely fair. Don't want to pay the tax? Take public transportation. Raising the gasoline tax and indexing it to inflation is straight up paying for your shit without adding to the deficit or using accounting tricks to move money around to create the appearance that a bill has the adequate revenue streams to pay for it.

Americans have it in their head that cheap gasoline is their birthright. The same assholes who bitch about $3.00/gal gasoline are the same assholes that stand in line to get a $5.00 venti mocha****achino every goddamn morning.
