The were the Midnight Rockers (Martey Jannety & Shawn Michaels--aka The Heartbreak Kid) when they started out as a tag team in 1985 in Kansas City (I remember watching them on All Star Wrestling on Sunday morning on ch. 41). When then went to the WWF(now WWE), Vince had them change their name to The Rockers.

My favorite brothers tag team was Harlem Heat. I also like the Steiner Brothers (pre Big Poppa Pump) and von Erich's.

Was that KC show in the AWA?

Yep, Booker T and Stevie Ray, what happened to Ray?

As you know the Steiners legit wrestlers at Michigan.

The Von Erich story a sad one, but Kerry and Kevin a great team.

A few other legit brother teams....

The Torres Brothers...Ramon/Alberto...and...Enrique who soloed it.
Paul and Joe LeDuc
I'm pretty sure Mad Dog and Butcher Vachon were legit brothers, maybe not
Randy Savage and "Leaping" Lanny Poffo....rassler Angelo Poffo the dad.
A whole slew of Guerreros
Mike and Ben Sharpe

No. Kansas City was a major city in the Central States NWA Territory. Bob Geigel was the promoter in KC.

I know the Midnight Rockers were in the AWA just before they showed up in the WWF.

There were. They formed in 1985 in Kansas City, and then moved to the AWA in 1986-1987. The went to the WWF in 1988. The Midnight Rockers briefly held the NWA Central States tag titles in 1985.

I used Wikipedia to verify dates, but I remember watching both Jannety and Shawn Michaels as singles, and as the Midnight Rockers on ch. 41 when I was around 15 (I've been watching wrestling since at least 1982).

I miss the Macho Man!

I haven't really watched wrestling in probably 20 years, but I doubt they'll ever have characters like they did with Hulk Hogan, Macho Man, Ric Flair, Rick Rude etc...

SOCAL
World Class in Texas
Central States
AWA
Memphis/CWA
Florida
WWF
World Championship
UWF

and a bunch I'm forgetting.

Yes indeed. Here is a map of just the NWA Territories

You nailed it~

Savage was an original and an amazing performer, he is missed.

Ric Flair was a "Nature Boy" Buddy Rogers clone but, was better at it, ha~~~

Hogan the best terrible rassler ever, but his impact on the biz was huge.

Rude a legit bad man, an arm wrestling champion and a bouncer.

You're breaking my heart.

Yep, the best of times.

New World Order 09-18-2019 05:32 PM

So Vince bought them all out I'm guessing?

He stold all the talent, because he could pay more.

Would love to read a book on this, do have one about the origins of the NWA, very interesting.

Territories were going to die regardless of Vince.

They were a relic of an era when cable TV wasn't big. If it wasn't Vince, it would have been Ted Turner.
