I don't see how that would work well. The kids are already looking too grown up for the story line to keep consistency.

I don't know why they couldn't do freshman year and then be juniors or seniors for the next season. Just do it in real time. Actually that might be kind of neat - real time passing but 30 years in the past at all times...
