See they like the bars in that part so the stadium is supposed to go in the dangerous shithole part.

This plan has all of the same actors, with the added goat**** of destroying a KC success story to replace it with another round of tax abatements and corporate chain bullshit funnelling the money out of the city again.

This isn't progress, it's a grift.

Yup Crossroads is one of the few areas that isn't watered down bullshit. All this talk about how stadiums bring development yet the area around the stadiums never developed and they avoided moving to the East Village. Why? Because development wouldn't take off.

Anyone who's ever been afraid of a downtown park should visit Petco.

Easy in/easy out. unlimited food and drink options within walking distance.

It's perfect.

And c'mon man....."but I tailgate at baseball games....". Really?

Cool, except this isn't an ugly unused area. It's a thriving bunch of locally owned businesses that all built the cultural heart of the city together without any outside interference.

There are ugly unused areas. Put it there and I wouldn't squawk

Gary Cooper 02-14-2024 12:57 PM

Why not the West Bottoms?

That area has lots of space and is underused. Plus, many buildings that are eyesores.

It also has that sexy view of skyscrapers in the background these modern baseball stadiums are looking for.

You're confused because those are coming from different people.

'dangerous shithole' people are afraid of the city, and don't live here andthe people who are pissed that they are going to tear out a thriving entertainment district actually live, work, and play here. That clear it up?

I'd probably stick with the more local stuff, too near the ballpark.. or at least less touristy/bland/better priced places..

Well, better take a Saturday night in the Crossroads this spring before it's all gone. If you did, you'd understand how monumentally stupid this plan is.

Dude he called downtown Kansas City a third world country. I think there is a disconnect. The P&L area and actual downton area is very affluent. Its expensive. The Paseo, Eastern urban neighborhoods are the problem spots. If you have paying events like concerts, sporting events etc its not usually an issue but free, large gatherings due to sheer proximity it becomes and issue. Thats why you hear about issues at the plaza of alot of these youths gathering etc. Its why they used to block off Westport..or used to not sure what they do now.

comochiefsfan 02-14-2024 07:17 PM

Busch Stadium is in downtown St. Louis.

An absolute hell hole of a downtown. FAR worse than downtown KC.

Yet in the dozens of Cardinals games I’ve been to over the years, including GASP night games, I’ve never once felt unsafe walking to and from the stadium. Never had a problem finding parking. Never had a problem with traffic postgame.

Downtown is where baseball belongs. I get that it’s new and there are questions and it’s replacing an iconic stadium for Royals fans. But I think you’re going to like the new park in the long run.

It's all abstract for you. For me, I've worked, performed, and frequented so many venues and restaurants -many owned and operated by dear friends who are all about to get ****ed. And for what? I'm playing at Record Bar on the 23rd. Wonder how many more times I'll do that and my friends who own the place are going to do now.

I view downtown Denver in that sort of decline. Was so many homeless downtown until the Governor moved them out due to the NBA Finals. I've not been back downtown recently, but between the homeless and the illegals what could ever go wrong....

Petco wasnt an ugly/unused area.

Businesses around there (small to large) hit the jackpot.

Businesses will always come and go, but having a stadium right next door would not be near the top of the list of reasons for a business failing.

It's a nice idea. 9/10 times, homeless aren't these poor souls just down on their luck. They're scumbags that chose drugs/alcohol/violence/insanity over fitting into normal society.

You shouldn't get to live in a tent wherever you want. KC doesn't have much of that problem though but Portland, Phx, Denver do. Because nobody will do anything about it.

dallaschiefsfan 02-15-2024 10:24 AM

Doesn't really matter what anyone thinks. People will come or they won't regardless of what any of you think. And it's possible that people aren't "scared" so much as they're pissed and they won't celebrate/support or look away from regresssive policies. Low trust society begets low trust results.

They seem to be on a 30 year championship cycle, so 20 years from now they should be in pretty good shape.

A lot of us won't be here to see it, though. Maybe we should merge this with the young thread.
