I really hope they don't graphically recreate her death scene in this. I mean, it's Tarantino, so he probably will, but.... ugh.

This one isn't really exciting me much for some reason...

I'm going to wait a few weeks for the reviews to begin and then probably go see it if no horrible opinions.

It's been probably 6-7 years since I went to the movies

Shit, you know it's coming. It's probably partly the reason he did this movie, tbh. Lol

Baby Lee 03-21-2019 10:11 AM

If you read the press, the movie is about the location and the times, not the murder itself.

Pitt and DiCaprio are an aging matinee star and his longtime stunt double, adjusting to the changing Hollywood culture.

Though they are cast and written, I doubt the narrative will focus much on Manson or Tate.

More Summer of Sam than Zodiac.

So the idea might be to show the principles just casually running into Manson on the street? That could lead to some interesting dialogue.

Have they cast for Mrs. LaBianca?

Honestly, I don't see how you can write in the murders without turning this into a horror film.

DiCaprio's character is said to live on the same street as Polanski/Tate. His character is also the star of a western tv show or movie, so it might be that the Manson Family who lived on a filming ranch is encountered via the western setting as well. Manson and his crew also mingled in music and film industry circles by way of Dennis Wilson and a few young actors and writers. The murders are said to be a backdrop for the story, not the primary story. I'm not sure if that means we'd see it or not.

It's the one reason I'm afraid of this movie...seriously...QT loves him some shocker violence. Though, this would be a recreation of an actual murder of a real person in recent history...maybe he'd be a little less...Tarantino about it.

I'll wait till I hear more about it after it comes out.

Deberg_1990 03-21-2019 06:14 PM

Apparently Tates sister gave the script her blessing, so I imagine it can’t be too exploitative.

But it is QT. He’s going to end up pissing some group of people off.

I haven't been this excited about a movie in forever.

BigRedChief 06-07-2019 09:15 PM

Publicly released Plot lines that actors are playing in the movie. Trivia about the movie from IDMB. Not really spoilers per say but still putting in spoilers.
Spoiler!

Deberg_1990 06-07-2019 11:15 PM

So Wikipedia has what it claims to be the spoiler ending published.

But it’s been refuted as well.

I have a feeling it’s not what we think it’s going to be.

some of the spoiler content above is that Tarantino was so burnt from his previous script leaking that DiCaprio and Pitt were the only ones who saw the finished script and they could only read the one copy at Tarantino’s house. All the other actors only got the pages of scripts they were in. I bet he filmed multiple endings. Set up leaks etc. as payback. He’d do something like that.

I've been trying to avoid spoilers for this like a ****ing plague . I really wish Tarantino didn't release this at Cannes . And of course he's upset now that there are spoilers all over the internet . Dumbass. Don't release your film at Cannes and this wouldn't be a problem! He should had done what JJ Abrams did with The Force Awakens and not screen it for critics until opening day .

His movies always have a lot of Starpower but never go anywhere. 5 years on a script...means it either had tons of holes, or it is the best ever written now. The Manson thing has been done a lot, so I guess we will see.

Lots of scripts take 5 years or more. Sometimes much more. That means nothing.

I’ve successfully avoided spoilers so far. So this is speculation.....I’m sure Tarantino is going to play with history like he did in Bastards killing Hitler. Probably have Pitt kill Manson and save Tate or something to keep us guessing how he’ll end his next to last movie.

Or maybe since he already did that, he’ll play it straight with history? Anyone who has not seen spoilers can rarely predict a Tarantino plot in his movies.

If I had to venture a guess, I'd say that 'history' wanders in and out of this story aimlessly.

Manson, you'll meet at a farmer's market, then hear something on the car radio towards the end of the movie.

The Tate/LaBianca stuff will play out with cops and reporters blocking access to their own house, leading to a missed opportunity or change of plans.

That kind of thing. Could be dead wrong, too.

I just sense he's trying to tell a story of a working actor at the end of the studio era and the changing culture of LA, more than any specific historical events.

Frazod 07-20-2019 04:19 PM

I remember hearing that Tate's sister gave her approval to the script. I doubt if she would have had it contained a graphic depiction of Sharon's death scene, which in reality was more horrible than anything even Tarantino could dream up. A pregnant woman begging for her baby's life stabbed 26 times? ****.

So I'm not expecting that to be in the movie. But you never know.

thats what everyone is saying. This is more about an homage to LA/Hollywood in the summer of 69. A slice of the cultural/social clash underway. A snapshot in time more than the violence in his previous films.

Every non spoiler review I’ve seen has said it’s his best movie ever. Better than Pulp Fiction? Rubs hands together..... can’t wait.

Deberg_1990 07-20-2019 06:10 PM

It’s a very, very, very, loose inspiration of Burt Reynolds (Rick Dalton) and Hal Needham (Cliff Booth) in the mid to late 60s. Burt was a struggling TV actor living with his best buddy Needham a stuntman.

Of course it’s all mixed up into the Tarantinoverse batter which is what he does best.

I guarantee pretty much nothing about the Tate murder will be factual. He’s been doing his revisionist history thing for awhile now.

My three guesses would be:

1. Jackie O
2. Some famous politician still very prominent today
3. Some famous Hollywood starlet still round today

I can remember the day RFK died, because that was the day I graduated from St. Petersburg High School, June 6, 1968.

https://cdn1.backpackerverse.com/wp-...in-florida.jpg

The summer of 1969 I worked the grill at Billy's Famous Subs, my cousin, on the boardwalk in Ocean City Maryland. Located on the Atlantic shore. 150 miles from Baltimore. For four months I had no TV, this is before cable, one radio station. I never even heard of Woodstock until the movie came out a year later. I did go see Gone with the Wind, it was playing continuously at the only local theater. At that time, only a 1,000 people lived all year in Ocean City, but on the 4th of July it was 200,000. Today they'll have up to 350,000 in OC in the summer.

How would you rank it compared to QTs other movies?

Wow...tough question because I don't want to spoil anything or give people any ideas before going to see it.

I'll say different.

It's more personal and heartfelt than anything he's ever done, IMO. With that said, there are still plenty of easter eggs, excellent cameos and typical QT obsessions that are everywhere in the film.

If you're a huge QT fan, I think you'll LOVE this movie.

I wasn't alive during this time period, but I really FELT like I was in 1969 LA.

I’m a huge QT fan, so I’m sure I’ll like it

I think my fave movies of his are Inglorious Basterds, Jackie Brown and Kill Bill.

But really I like them all.

Saw some interviews with him where he talked about the movie being a love letter to his home town.

Definitely plays that way.

I love well done period pieces. One of my top five favorites is L.A. Confidential.

It's The Godfather of cop movies.

I always thought it was kind of ironic that the weakest of the main performances won the Oscar. I guess Spacey, Crowe and Pearce were all so good that they cancelled each other out.

That's a prime candidate for a re-watch. One of the few movies that I know i watched and I know I enjoyed a great deal, but I couldn't tell you much about it at all.

I mean, I have a good memory, but I watched it once, on VHS, in my dorm, right after it came out of home video. What was that? 25 years ago?

EDIT - Looked it up, closer to 20. So it was more likely on DVD in my apartment. I just recall it being a rental, which is more than I remember of the movie.

Just got back from seeing this film and damn it I knew I should have known better than to hype it up so much. ****ing huge letdown folks. This was about as self indulgent & pointless as you can get overall. Tarantino has his head so far up his ass with this one.

Its not all bad though. Leo & Brad both do their best and have a few cool moments but overall it just didn't deliver.

Netflix streams it from time to time

Damn that's so tough to hear as I want to see this real bad as I haven't been to the movies in about 10 years.

WITHOUT getting into plot lines or spoilers, why was it so disappointing to you? :hmmm:

I really liked it, but if you go in expecting Kill Bill, Basterds, or Django, you’ll be disappointed.

It’s more of an atmospheric mood piece & vehicle for QT to reflect on his place in a changing industry.

I just watched that here 2-3 weeks ago. One of my all time favorites as well. It is one of those few movies I revisit on a near yearly basis.

This is fair.

Then again, if you've read anything about this movie, you'd be foolish to think it's gonna be anything like KB, IB or DU.
