burt, we could be CPs poster dudes on the consequences of being an addict. I wish you the best my friend. My circumstances made it far easier than what you and SR will have to deal with. You both got this. |

Just the fact that you have identified the problem and are taking steps in the right direction speaks volumes about your character...
I wish I had your courage kid; I have zero doubt you'll overcome whatever is forcing this internal behavior... Chin up... |
What’s next, SR? Treatment?

Burt, I've been on a formula I heard will clean your arteries. My heart doctor said I'm getting a little blockage in the caratoid so I hit the internet looking for a cure. But anyway: I take 3 lemons and skin them with a knife leaving the white skin on , 15 cloves of garlic and pulverize it like in a magic bullet. Mix it into half a gallon of water. Heat it to where it almost boils but don't let it boil. Let it simmer 7 minutes. Take it off and let it cool to room temp then strain it into a glass container. Put in the fridge overnight. Drink 8 oz first thing every morning on an empty stomach. Do this for 30 days take a week off and 30 days more. It might take 6 months to a year but this internet Doctor says it will. Who knows. I asked my heart doctor about it and he just smiled and said if you think it makes you feel better go ahead. |
Hey SR,
I'm really glad to hear about your progress. You've motivated me. Keep it up. |
Good for you for deciding to make a change, man. It’s not easy, as you know. It’s a daily battle and will be for the rest of your life.
I recently saw an interview where someone likened alcoholism to a boxing match. Every day you wake up, ducking, dodging and evading the punches - and if you aren’t careful, your opponent will knock you right back onto your ass. The goal is to lay your head down that night and be able to say “I won today.” Here’s hoping every day moving forward is a win for you. |

Hey, as you can see, we all love you and support you. You can do this!! Mrs. Monty is a damn good counselor, so if you need more help and support, just ask.
|
Best of luck to you.
Just take it one day at a time. You got this. |
I'm workin on quitting. I drink every single night, starting at about 12:40 AM. Been doing it for years now (at different times, haven't always worked these hours). I don't wanna quit for physical health reasons. I'm 31 and have a lot of gas in the tank, but I get angry and say mean terrible shit every once in a great while, so I'm workin on it. Didn't drink any alcohol the night before last and I was awake all night. Even took sleeping pills but was wide awake until I had to go to work again. Can't seem to sleep without the drink, that's the shittiest thing for me.

Wishing you blessings and luck.
I have friends and family that have struggled with the beast of Alcohol. Stay strong, connect with loved ones, choose situations wisely. |
Good Morning SR,
Make today a great day. Hog |
SR I only wish you the best in your journey to sobriety. I have lost a couple of people I love due this issue. Stay strong and may God bless you.
|
Hang in there. Seek out some treatment soon, or at the very least - go to an AA meeting. Bear in mind if your physical addiction to alcohol is bad enough withdrawal can be dangerous.. Speaking from experience, days 4-8 will be the toughest.
|
i stopped drinking almost all together my struggle right now is smoking. I cant seem to quit it. glad for you though!
|
I have a friend who was in the same situation. He's been sober, now, for twenty years and recently commented about how grateful he is to be sober. He's enjoying family and life.
You can do this. Hopefully, you have a nonjudgmental support group you can lean on and who will lovingly hold you accountable. Congratulations on your decision. I'm rooting for you! |
Thanks for sharing SR. I know over the years you have struggled with it. I really hope this time you kick it's ass. Prayers your way to be strong as you battle.
|
|
Maybe get real drunk with me then wake up to me blowing u would be enough to get you to quit
|
I highly recommend attending AA. It's good that you can talk to us about it, and, of course, we all wish you luck, but it's going to take people who are real to you to help hold you accountable, and they'll have a firsthand understanding of what you're going through each step of the way. We can offer encouragement, but they can offer advice worth taking and support.

I read somewhere that the Haglund's will **** with your spirit. |
One day, one hour, one minute, one second at a time. When you want to drink, write down when, why and where you are. Find an new interest, volunteer yourself to helping others. Finding something to fill the void left by the habit of drinking will really help.
Good habits are hard to make and bad habits are hard to break. You can do it, lean on family and friends when you need it. |

Alcohol actually disrupts your sleep pattern. When you are off of it, you sleep much better. |

 Props! |
And a pro tip for all ya'll trying to quit or cut back...
Sparkling water is a great beer substitute... Another thing, you will start craving sweets most likely when you give up alcohol, it's your body wants that sugar. Try to avoid the bad stuff like donuts and cupcakes, and eat fruit instead. |
Hope you are having a super great day today SR. One day down.

Praying for you brother and I'm right there with you as I'm a little over 6 months in(to be fair I did have 2 beers before dinner at the casino a few weeks ago but shut it down after that) so 2 beers in a little over 6 months.
IMO it's as much of a spiritual battle as it is anything so as a few others have mentioned I'd take it to God.For me personally I get up each morning and read a bit of his Word with my morning coffee to start my day. Love ya man and so does He,fight the good fight! |

Shit, I can't even kick energy drinks for a week. Let alone beer for 5 or 10 years. Sounds like you got will power my man.
|
Experience tells me never say never. However today is a good day not to drink if I can go 24 hours without a drink then I went a day tomorrow will be another day but I'm not worried about tomorrow and yesterday is in the past today is a present.
I can only quit one day at a time that's all we have maybe just procrastinate until cravings go away. God bless. Also when craving hits eat some chocolate just a suggestion Oreo cookies are good give yourself a treat. |
Hey Red.
Man, we've been talking about this subject here and there for 15 years. It's a progressive disease. I've been sober 18 months. For me its really about how I feel and my emotional triggers, rather than fighting cravings. For me alcohol was a habit. Sobriety is a lifestyle. I'm here to talk any time you need it, buddy. You cannot do this alone. Good for you for being honest about it and for reaching out like this. It takes a lot of will and courage. |
Thanks friends, all of this is very positive. My first night I basically didn't sleep and did have some light anxiety. I will sleep tonight. I will get to an additional solution, but for this week, I just want to get to next week. Then I'll look into some added support. I feel I'll sleep tonight, actually.
Ty all so very much! |

Red, it may take a couple of days for the insomnia and anxiety to go away. You can try a natural sleep supplement, like Melatonin, and see if that helps.
The best thing is waking up in the morning with a clear head and not feeling like shit...and for me, not having the runs. :D |

I know you were into working out for a while. For many with addictive personalities, this can be a lifelong healthy choice.
Once you start seeing positive changes in your body, along with the endorphin rush of working out, it's a positive change for your entire life and CAN replace some of those feelings/cravings you get for booze. I've seen many a drug addict or alcoholic replace substance with exercise. It's not all you'll have to do, but it's a good place to start along with counseling and/or classes. |

I'm not saying it's addictive but it does have some side effects like making depression worse. You can't operate machinery or drive for 4 or 5 hours after taking it. https://www.webmd.com/vitamins/ai/in...-940/melatonin Some other guidelines for using. https://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/heal...p-does-it-work I use it for specific times like—to adjust my sleep-wake cycle when flying, a special schedule where I have to get up earlier than usual for adjusting to a time zone. |

How're you doing SR?

SR,
Sleeping yet? I haven't been able to... AND been crankier than usual. |

Seriously though, nothing wrong with not drinking, and those that are real friends will respect you for who you are, not how much you drink. No shame in talking with friends and family about it, and they will help you through anything. If you feel the urge, just find somebody to talk to....you can do it! |
