Seemed like the appropriate thread for this. Being somewhat of a live music snob (hey, I lived in Colorado for 20 years  ) I never would've considered going to see Get the Led Out before last weekend when I had some friends who were going to see them in downtown Chandler. They are soooo damn good it was amazing. They probably sound more like Led Zeppelin's studio recordings than Led Zeppelin themselves ever did live. I had such an unexpectedly great time. I found myself just laughing at how good they were (I was hammered). If you like Led Zeppelin and you haven't seen these guys, do yourself a favor and check them out. Oh, and check out the cocaine jaw the guitarist on the left has going on.

Side note: Downtown Chandler is happening as hell. Who knew?? Reminded me of Mill Avenue in the late 90s. Different crowd, a Scottsdale to Apache Junction and everything in between mix, but super lit. Can't imagine how much it gets turned up when it cools down a bit.

Billy rocks. Between them and Greensky the future of jamgrass is in great hands.

The chord progression changes he made towards the end of the song, especially under the 3rd verse, really changes the atmosphere of the song. It's different - very different - from the original but I think he did a bang up job.

Totally off track but speaking of so very different from the original, but very good, I've been on a Sturgill kick lately. Anyone who grew up in our era knows the original but I like the remake too.

Hated the original song as they tried to claim it was a country song. She put it where it belongs in the rocker category. She did it justice I like it way way better than the original. She put that song where it should have been all along.

I like this song better than the Goo Goo Dolls version. In the original, it's difficult to figure out what to do with the 90s weirdness that the Goo Goo Dolls were about the front men, for, but they leveled it out a bit without losing the emotion of it all.

I listen to this group a fair bit. They don't turn out crap, it's typically well produced and periodically they'll put out a banger. Oh, and the lead signer is flaming hot.

Anyway, you could argue they're not as good as the original, sometimes, but they do everything from Metallica to Adele. And while they're not as good as either one, it's safe to say Metallica can't do Adele and Adele (probably) can't do Metallica. I like them. They're pretty good to have on in the background if nothing else.

I've checked out a fair number covers by First to Eleven.

It is impressive how many different styles they can play. They are good musicians but my complaint is that they generally play the song too much like the original. I get a third of the way through the song, and I'm like, okay, that's nice, but why don't I just go listen to the original.

Although I could see a live show being fun.

Occasionally however, one of their covers does surprise.

I like their cover of I Love Rock 'N Roll better than Joan Jett. It's just a fun dance song without the attitude that Joan Jett brought.

Their cover of You Shook Me All Night Long is also surprisingly good.

Holy shit this is good never heard of this group. They did a masterful job with special guest master Steve Hacket. Really the only slightly missing piece is the drummer. He is no slouch but no match for Collins who then was interested in drums and being the best in rock. I know its long its "Suppers Ready" but at least watch the last guitar solo with the dual guitars just wow. Except for the drumming its better than I saw in KC in the 70s doing the original. Bravo

The Rock n' Roll Hall of fame is a disgrace.

No I didn't know that Joan Jett's version was a cover. I'm old enough to remember when her songs came out, but I was never a fan.

But she was the one that put the song on the map.

Yea, this is actually makes more sense as the original.

Never was much for Collective Soul or a fan of this song. However, I am a Dolly fan and thanks to The Righteous Gemstones I'd never known Dolly did this song and better.

There is no replacing the beautiful and talented Linda Ronstadt but this young lady is close.. Not saying I like this better than my crushes original but its awesome in its own rights.. She is a striking girl with an amazing voice.. Tristan McIntosh is her name..

It's well documented that I like first to Eleven, but I legitimately like this better than the Mice and Men version, and I certainly don't hate them. This is a good listen. And I think it's a single take livestream, not like some of their more produced stuff.

So up making coffee this morning and had Sirrus Outlaw Country playing. Paula Nelson the DJ (yes Willies daughter) announced a new tribute album coming in June called Petty Country.

This is Dolly's cut from the album.

What a well written Tom Petty song. Is it better than the original? I don't think so. That said Dolly I love you! Tom would be proud.

Dunerdr 05-13-2024 08:39 AM

Dolly has really had a resurgance. I saw where she got post Malone's agent or something and he said they were going to follow the same plan as post. I thought that was funny but sure enough shes on shirts and doing interviews all over lately.

I'm not any good at embedding videos but the Korn cover of One at the Icon event was the best of the bunch, IMO. I was admittedly a "nu-metal" kid... I was in 8th grade when the first Korn album came out and hooked me. Either way, both of those covers blew the door off the horrible Avril Lavigne cover that night ROFL

The original was no hit for the Stones, but this is way better

Correction: Ronnie Wood solo album!

This is amazing. Apparently it's 15 years old, but I heard it on a local radio station for the first time a few months ago. Never cared for the Wham original that much, but this version ****ing rocks.
