Bonus FTs already on that "foul" from Harris. Beneficial stuff.

Imon Yourside 11-15-2022 10:57 PM

We seem to be our own worst enemy

BWillie 11-15-2022 10:57 PM

Hahaj i love these refs

Heroes

LiveSteam 11-15-2022 10:58 PM

Hands on D.

BWillie 11-15-2022 10:58 PM

One problem with this team is we dont have guys that draw FTAs

smithandrew051 11-15-2022 10:59 PM

Not sure what he’s crying about. He literally threw an elbow at Zuby.

Buehler445 11-15-2022 10:59 PM

LOL Filipowski shocked they called a foul on that.

KC_Connection 11-15-2022 10:59 PM

Filipowski is lucky that elbow didn't connect or he'd be kicked out of the game.

Cant worry about Gradey not making shots RN

He needs to be in the ball game

Never is.

smithandrew051 11-15-2022 11:03 PM

Watching us throw lobs tonight makes me appreciate Ochai even more. His athleticism allowed A LOT of margin for error on those passes.

BWillie 11-15-2022 11:04 PM

Not sure how we r supposed to score with this lineup

Imon Yourside 11-15-2022 11:05 PM

Flop

BWillie 11-15-2022 11:06 PM

We have four non scorers in the game at the same time

Self would make some kind of adjustment to get some rebounds, Duke is living off offensive rebounds.

Buehler445 11-15-2022 11:09 PM

****ing calm down on the blocks and defend and rebound. They've figured out that we're coming for the blocks and cutting to the bucket and rebounding hard.

Handing us our asses.

BWillie 11-15-2022 11:09 PM

MJ Rice looks like a guy who can get to the line alot. Really missing him

KC_Connection 11-15-2022 11:09 PM

Duke is just playing harder and much more physical. Intensity level a lot higher. It's paying dividends with the refs too.

KJ can't really play significant minutes for this team when conference play starts. If he is, something seriously went wrong with Udeh and Ejiofor's development and we're stuck with a tremendously flawed player at the 5.

Id argue we are playing alot harder than Duke we just arent winning. Rarely does a sporting event come down to who is playing harder or not

I mean we are 10% from 3...playing harder has nothing to do with that

Buehler445 11-15-2022 11:14 PM

Nice to get a few OREB for ourselves.

Imon Yourside 11-15-2022 11:14 PM

Duke is shooting in the low 30's, I mean if we could only rebound.

So is Duke. They're just destroying KU on the boards on and loose balls. They have more size but that isn't all that is going on here.

Imon Yourside 11-15-2022 11:15 PM

FInally got Dick

Buehler445 11-15-2022 11:18 PM

3 ****ing fouls LOL

Imon Yourside 11-15-2022 11:18 PM

CLUTCH!!!!!!!!!!!

smithandrew051 11-15-2022 11:18 PM

Buehler445 11-15-2022 11:18 PM

Nice ****ing play Adams.

Imon Yourside 11-15-2022 11:19 PM

Bilas being a bitch about fouls, showing his colors

KC_Connection 11-15-2022 11:19 PM

Now it costs Duke to not have had the refs call any fouls on them all half. LMAO

KC_Connection 11-15-2022 11:20 PM

So Duke can just tackle Wilson?

smithandrew051 11-15-2022 11:20 PM

Not sure how that wasn’t flagrant. He just blasted Wilson.

Buehler445 11-15-2022 11:20 PM

KC_Connection 11-15-2022 11:22 PM

Dick certainly showed up when it mattered. Hard and strong to the hole.

Chiefspants 11-15-2022 11:23 PM

The win of a championship team.

Buehler445 11-15-2022 11:23 PM

Nice game hawks.

I gotta say Duke played well enough to win, and KU brought it. Which we haven't always done in this event.

Well done, Hawks.

smithandrew051 11-15-2022 11:23 PM

That’s a gutty win.

Nice post defense all around. Zuby, Adams, Udeh.

Wilson looks like an All American. Dick is instant offense. Super efficient game from Harris.

Monty 11-15-2022 11:23 PM

Nice win! I hate Duke, so was very satisfying to see them pull out some Dick!

Fansy the Famous Bard 11-15-2022 11:25 PM

Dick sitting so much in the 2nd half was odd.

ROYC75 11-15-2022 11:26 PM

RCJH GO KU! :KU:

Imon Yourside 11-15-2022 11:26 PM

Was a nice comeback, good job routing this team on boys.

smithandrew051 11-15-2022 11:26 PM

Zuby is way better than I expected. The 5 looks really good, at least defensively. Udeh still clearly has the highest upside. We should be able to play good post defense though.

KC_Connection 11-15-2022 11:28 PM

KU shot 10% better than Duke and had 13 more assists, so it would have been a shame to have lost it due to rebounds/loose balls and bad turnovers. Fortunately, their greater experience came through at the end to close it out.

It does look for now like Wilson has taken a bit of a step forward this year. We'll see if he can start making more 3s.

He has a tremendous knack for timing blocked shots.

I was surprised at how lost Lively looks. The ability is clearly there, but he looked completely out of sorts.

I was really impressed with all the young guys' capacity to deal with physical play. Most of the time freshman struggle with that because they haven't ever had to deal with it, at least from commensurate athletes. As physical as that was, it is difficult to keep composure, and they did.

That is optimistic. Mostly because that's what the rest of the B12 has as a gameplan.

ArrowheadHawk 11-15-2022 11:39 PM

Nice game for the Jayhawks! Why was Dick on the bench so long in the 2nd half?

Harris was amazing.

KCC doesn’t like him for unknown reasons

BWillie 11-15-2022 11:50 PM

They finally put Gradey in and he hits the biggest 3 of the game.

KU was down 1 and Duke had the ball. Here at Gainbridge Fieldhouse they played my late dad's favorite song that he sang on his death bed "Sweet Caroline". I turned to everyone and said. This is OVER. KU just won.

And this was my post from last February questioning someone who was bashing Harris about who would play over him.

Let's try to keep the callouts with some kind of basis in reality next time. Harris has his offensive flaws, but they need his defense and decision making.

Give it your best shot. You'll find plenty of me knocking Ochai last year and Braun two years ago, but Harris?

That's what you get when you have an experienced championship team vs a team full of very talented freshmen, I guess. Though, I will add that KU lost a few of those experienced championship players and has a few freshmen of their own. And KU can often times looks a little shaky early in the year. Good win.

And Wilson has definitely taken on the role of leader and scorer.

I definitely like what I saw from Ejifor (sp?). He looks like he's gonna be a force for this team.
I like Udeh, too, but he seems a little slow and clueless at times.
And for all the crap that Adams gets, he plays hard, doesn't make many mistakes, and gives the team good energy. And he made some plays down the stretch, offensively and defensively.

It was good to see that 7ft freshman on Duke go down in flames.

Actually, that guy was really good. But a very cocky, very punchable Duke face.

smithandrew051 11-16-2022 07:31 AM

I’ve often said that Wilson is a better outside shooter than his percentage, but he does need to learn to stop shooting it when it isn’t falling.

If it’s contested, use the shot fake more to drive (which almost always works in college basketball). He’s such an effective driver that he doesn’t need to settle for guarded 3’s.

That alone will improve that percentage.

Nice early (in the season) win. Unfortunately I fell asleep until the final 30 seconds. :(

Prison Bitch 11-16-2022 08:19 AM

McCullar and JW are *not* good deep shooters. JW wants to flash this for the nba but 0-7 last nite was a drag. And most of them were open anyway. We need a 2nd shooter.

Also we have zero post offense for the first time I can remember jn like, my life. Maybe the 1-2 years circa 1999 of Eric ChenoBitch

Meh, I don't think Bilas was that bad. Maybe a slight bias but overall, he was pretty even keel. Even called out that play at the end should have been a flagrant.

Lol, no. He would have said that no matter the players name. I mean, he did go back door, right? You guys gotta slow your roll on this. We got a whole season to go. Save some of these, don't use them all up in the first month. :p

It's been going away for awhile. I remember Cliff Alexander was in the post with like a 6'5 guy behind him on the block that he had to outweigh him by 50+ lb. Got fed an uncontested entry pass, straight up on the block, tiny dude right behind him.

.... And kicked it back out.

FFS, JUST ****ING TURN AND SHOOT. ****.

I think at 6'3 and 30 years old or whatever I was at the time out of shape as ****, I think I could have scored at least a couple times out of 10 with that post entry. JUST DO SOMETHING. At Cliffs size, whatever he did, if he did it strong it would have worked.

https://wompampsupport.azureedge.net...F247%2F297.png

/RANT

-------------

Objectively, though it makes sense. There isn't much of that in the NBA these days. Embiid and Jokic is about it right? At least dudes that are effective.

In college it's Drew Timme and Orlando Bacot right?

The NBA and NCAA games are leaning towards space and shooting.

Plus, even in the lower leagues, the amount of coaches that looked at Hakeem Olajuwon and thought, "I can teach my guy to do that" are probably out of the game these days.

As a guy that appreciates elite post play (like we had when Danny) it saddens me. I LOVE the efficiency of a good post player. But it isn't the game. I also love good movement and spacing and shooting. Basically I love good, technically sound ball.

But I think some coaches are missing the boat with post play. But whatever, if Wilson can play like he did against Puke, the dish/OREB game works for our guys.

Our post offense is going to be our big wings bullying smaller defenders around the basket.

Right there is when I knew the post game was dead for the foreseeable future. I mean hell, the little bastard all but disappeared behind Cliff. On the block. And he kicked it out.

Yeah, unfortunately, Adams is not a create a shot in the post type of player. He can definitely be an ok pick and roll type of player, though. It's gonna have to be the young big men learning and developing. The plus with Adams is that he's quick enough to be able to switch on defense. Udeh is too slow. But maybe that is more that he's still learning and he will get better at that.
