Good looking out. I tried to get one to give to my younger son.

Does anyone know of any reason I couldn't just swap out the 1660 for a 3080 if/when I ever get one? Other than needing to wire for the 12 pin PSU connector?

There should be no issue, as they are both NVIDIA.

When I change between AMD and NVIDIA, I use DDU to wipe the drivers.
I've never had an issue.

Thanks. That reminds me, I need to load Windows onto a thumb drive before I start building.

man, glad i got my 5700XT last year before all the prices shot back up! I waited til they dropped once they did, i built a new pc. Hope yall do the same if you are thinking, as soon as it goes back to normal pull the trigger if you can.

My old RX580 took a crap around Black Friday, I didn't want to buy anything good to replace it as I wanted to wait and build a new machine around the RTX 30 line once they are actually available.

So I bought a 1050TI to tide me over. It was $110 with rebate. Now people want $300 for the damn thing. Crazy.

I'm running with a 1050TI as well, but it's not handling my VR stuff.

Holy ****, I just checked my 2080 and it's like $1,500. People have lost their damn minds. ****ing crypto miners.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...0?ie=UTF8&th=1

I might just ****ing sell it and be without a PC until the 4000 series come out.

I could buy like a mid-range gaming laptop to tide me over and still make out like a bandit.

Except at this rate you will have zero chance of getting a 4000 series. I suppose my 3090 at 1899 wasn't horrible if these prices continue, this is clown world for sure.

Ehh, who knows what 2022 will be like. Hopefully manufacturing is back to normal. And even if crypto is still a thing, I will camp my local Micro Center like a good little nerd.

So was going to buy a new mobo and either 5600 or 5800 until I did a little research and figured out that it's a lot more work then just replacing it

Mephistopheles Janx 05-15-2021 12:07 AM

Holy shit... I scored an MSI Gaming X Trio 3070 along with a Gigabyte B550 Aurus Elite AX motherboard from newegg.

This is a sign that my current rig (i7 4770k/Vega 56) is gonna be reassigned to other duties.

The Vega 56 is currently selling on eBay for $500-$700. I also have an R9 390 that I can't get it to play well with drivers anymore but even busted up ones like mine are selling for $120-$200.

The new build:

CPU - AMD Ryzen 5 5600X (I'll use the stock cooler for now)
MOBO - Gigabyte B550 Aurus Elite AX
GPU - MSI Gaming X Trio 3070
SSD - SAMSUNG 970 EVO SSD 500GB (salvaged from my current rig)
RAM - G.SKILL TridentZ Series 16GB DDR4 4000
PSU - Seasonic FOCUS GM-750

---

Wife inherits the i7-4770k along with my motherboard and the new 1650 Super.

The Media Center PC gets a MASSIVE upgrade from an old AMD Socket FM2 to the wife's current i5-4570 along with our old 1050 (single fan) which will run our 4K TV set with no issues.
