Thought the electric steering was too twitchy with complete lack of feedback which wasn't present in a 6 series I had a chance to drive with the new steering. The I4 turbo engine seemed to have a lot of punch for what I was while in sport mode but found the auto transmission in that mode very annoying. Caused it to always be awkwardly high in the revs even when you let of the gas for a while which was likely to deal with the turbo lag you noted.
Long winded way to say I agree with you.

I've read a lot of people say they think BMW got back to what it does really well with the 2 series and that other series have become pretty bland, which is what I felt out of the 328 (plus, 9 of 10 BWMs in the parking lot at work are black 328s).
Mine does that, too, if I push it in Sport mode... completely let off the gas and it'll hang at 4000+ for at least a few seconds, wasn't sure if it was something with the turbo or a 'feature' of Sport mode. Overall though, I love the auto, it's silky smooth... multiple people have mentioned they hadn't even noticed the shifting until I brought it up.
