We’ve had some similar ones. The gold stripe is new though I think.

I don’t either. Just a blue stripe or just a red stripe would’ve been better.

Remy got his knee knocked.

Dajuan Harris had a great game

Al Czervik 12-30-2021 08:15 AM

Officials are just shit in CBB......

KU had 13 fouls in 2nd half....Nevada...who had 3 fouls in the first few minutes...
ZERO....

How does a team that had 14 fouls in the first half, end up with ZERO in the 2nd?

Just garbage.....

I have to admit that was a pretty pro KU crew. Nevada was called for a ton of ticky tack stuff.

But then they turned around at points in the game and called terrible ones on KU. There was no consistency either way.

BWillie 12-30-2021 09:29 AM

Christian Braun continues to make 2-pointers. I dont know if Ive seen this type of turn around ever on a Bill Self team. Guy went from the worst on team at twos to the best. He hung in the air on some vs Nevada. Made some tough and ones. Just insane. Still dont think sustainable for him but guy is the MVP so far. Increased his other statlines as well.

17.3 PPG
6.5 RPG
2.7 APG vs 1.8 TOs
1.5 SPG
1.4 Blocks per game
62% FG
34% 3FG
82% FT

The only thing he can probably do better us shoot and make a few more threes.

Seemed to coincide with Alford's technical.

He’s easily been KU’s best player this season. Have never seen a turnaround quite like it before although we still have to see him against better competition.

There was a point in the 2nd half of that game once KU got out to an insurmountable lead that the refs just decided they were going to make an attempt to even up the fouls. It rarely is ever that blatant.

Bitter cold? Try living in Toronto during the winter.

It’s remarkable.

Guys like Jeff Withey made significant improvements in their time at Kansas, but I can’t remember a guy radically changing the way he plays the game like Braun.

I was worried Braun was going to be Brannen Greene. Camp on the arch and wait to shoot 3’s. If he’s missing shots, he’s worthless.

Braun’s aggressive driving offensive game also looks like it’s carried over to his focus on defense and the boards.

smithandrew051 12-30-2021 04:52 PM

Jalen Wilson on the other hand…

39.6% from the field
35.7% from the stripe
11.8% from 3

As impressive as Braun has been, Wilson has been equally disappointing

I can think of two in the same season with turnarounds like Braun - Jeff Withey and Tyshawn Taylor.

Withey was AWFUL when he first transferred, then became the one of the best defensive bigs in the country. Taylor was a non-factor (at best) and a headache (at worst) his first 3 years before becoming a great driving PG his senior year.

Wasn't Malik Newman a pretty big disappointment before becoming one of the biggest reasons we went to the F4?

Jeff Graves perhaps?

Maybe Darnell Jackson

KC_Connection 12-30-2021 05:09 PM

Withey only played 207 minutes combined in his first two years at KU, but he was firmly behind guys like Aldrich, the Morris brothers, and TRob for that time. It's possible that he could have been good in those years if he had the opportunity but we never got the chance to see. Not quite comparable to Christian Braun's 1600 minutes in his first two years where he was completely mediocre.

Tyshawn Taylor definitely took a big jump in productivity in his final year, but he was honestly pretty good throughout his entire career (for instance, he was a starter on the 2010 KU team that may have been Self's best since the 2008 team): https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb...-taylor-1.html

Malik Newman is a pretty good example as far as in-season improvement. Look how good his 2nd half was: https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb...1/gamelog/2018

KC_Connection 12-30-2021 05:10 PM

That 32 point, five three, 11 FT effort against Duke was epic.

KC_Connection 12-30-2021 05:14 PM

https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb...n-braun-1.html

Braun had a .137 WS/48 and 6.3 BPM last year. He is .284 WS/48 and 13.7 BPM this year (which leads the B12 and is 8th in the NCAA). 72% on 2s compared to 45% last year. His distance shooting has stayed mostly the same, but he seemingly somehow became a completely different player over the summer with an ability to cut/drive/finish at the rim as good as anybody in the NCAA.

smithandrew051 12-30-2021 05:23 PM

Braun reminds me of a slightly shorter Sam Dekker from Wisconsin a few years back

All positive intentions to former KU and New Mexico player Gethro Muscadin... sounds like this was a bad car accident.

https://247sports.com/college/kansas...MWuhwfgJNUcs10

Former Kansas and New Mexico forward Gethro Muscadin was involved in a serious car accident Wednesday.

“Please pray for Gethro Muscadin,” New Mexico coach Richard Pitino wrote. “He’s fighting for his life after a horrible car accident last night. Every prayer matters right now. So tragic and devastating.”

Muscadin had played in 12 games (nine starts) for New Mexico this year after transferring from Kansas. He averaged 9.3 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.6 blocks per game. Muscadin had racked up two double-doubles this year. But he recently left the New Mexico program.

No Remy Martin today. Shouldn’t need him.

BigRedChief 01-01-2022 04:24 PM

McCormick may be the more superior in natural talent and ability but having Lightfoot in there, it seems to me anyway, makes KU a better team.

Sorta out both point guards with Harris in foul trouble. That doesn’t help.

The surprising part is how little Braun and Agbaji have done so far.

It’s pretty much all Wilson, JCL, and Lightfoot so far.

Harris isn't going to do much for them offensively on his best day, which is where they miss Remy. Agbaji has been terrible but he has no real offensive game to speak of outside of open spot shooting (and no Remy to draw attention away for those shots).

KU should have gone small much earlier in this game too.

KC_Connection 01-01-2022 04:50 PM

They both scored and defended better without McCormack/Lightfoot on the court that half. Maybe continue playing small in the 2nd.

Painful watching McCormack around the basket sometimes

smithandrew051 01-01-2022 05:13 PM

Enaruna is starting to come along.

23 points and 8 rebounds today against Baylor.
19 points and 10 rebounds the previous game.
Minimal playing time most of the season before those games.

5 point loss against Baylor today, shocking after a few of our top players didn’t do well, and we were only 1-14 from the 3. We might belong in the Top 3 of the Big12 after all.

Big12 is going to be a grind for everyone this year.

It's time. Unfortunately it doesn't matter a whole lot. We are definitely limited at the 5.

Which is why I wanted HCBS to take early season lumps and roll with Clemence. At least we'll see him get better and hopefully by the end of the year he would be more valuable than either McCormack or Lightfoot.

The problem with that is he needs to build some muscle. He won't survive long going up against NCAA bigs with that frame.

If that’s the alternative to whatever McCormack is doing these days, I probably wouldn’t even play a true 5 at all. Go small with Wilson at the 5 and run teams off the court.

Guards are taking the ball from him. Guys 3 inches shorter and 40 lbs lighter are getting contested rebounds over him. Maybe this will light a fire under him.
