Interesting...but in no way better than any of dozens of times the Dead themselves played it in concert.

Case in point (from what many consider one of the best shows the Dead ever played):

Im a huge Warren Zevon fan and I was searching the tube for covers of his songs. I thought I knew all his work but found this obscure piece from a singer even more obscure.

This is the Zevon version much better just surprising to me I never heard it before. Even sadder we will never get more incredible songwriting for this treasure.

I will put this version of Knocking on Heavens door up there with any of them. Zevon did this with just months left to live with terminal lung cancer he could barly breath while recording his last Album The Wind. David Lindley's peddle steel guitar is simply haunting.

Yeah they over killed it. Sad that we cant hear Linda anymore she had some pipes before the Parkinsons. She was really getting into Spanish and Mexican tunes before the disease hit. Warrens version was better more edgy but Im a huge Zevon fanatic.

Without a doubt Vanilla Fudge is the winner. They were also my first concert in 1968. I had just saw them perform on Ed Sullivan and a week later they were at the Armory in St. Petersburg. Carmen Appice is one of the greatest drummers of all time. For those that don't know, Diana Ross and the Supremes were the original and Kim Wilde of Kids in America fame performed a disco version in the 80's.

Not a cover in the true sense, but a hologram of a dead singer doing their hits with a live band. Ronnie James Dio who died in 2010 of cancer, has a hologram performing with a live band on a US and European tour. Here a video from Warsaw, Poland.

There is a lot of his stuff I don't really jive with, but man, he's made a lot of really creative music in a lot of different sounds.

Speaking of Cash, I didn't know this was a song Cash did when I saw the movie.

It sounds nothing like Cash.

Pretty good listening out there.

Not sure this is better than either original, but it's pretty good. Going to try embedding this, fail and then just link it.

Speaking of Cash, I didn't know this was a song Cash did when I saw the movie.

It sounds nothing like Cash.

"Wayfaring Stranger" is a folk song from the early 19th century. My favorite version, which came out 20 years before Cash's, is Emmylou Harris' off of her bluegrass album.

I didn’t know that either. Makes some sense as to why it was in 1917.

That movie was so engrossing it didn’t even occur to me that it was something else.

If you like that one, you might like this one. I'm a total sucker for Rhiannon Giddens.

While that is not bad and a little jazzy, NOTHING will ever be as good as my All Time Favorite song!

You shut you're whore mouth!

I've been listening to this girl a lot lately. She's not exactly famous but she does some amazing covers. She's very easy on the eyes too.
