They have to cut him or things just get worse... If they don't cut him before the 17th, he'd have another option bonus trigger for $22m and his 2025 salary of $37m would become guaranteed.

What's out there is he had a $50m signing bonus in 22 so he's still on the books for $30m of that. He had a $20m option bonus in 23 so he's still on the books for $16m of that. He also has his full $17m salary guaranteed for 24. So they are on the hook for $63m. That would be a dead hit if they cut him with a pre-June 1 designation.

If they designate him as a post-June 1 designation, he'd have dead money of 31m this season (his 2024 salary and prorated bonuses as they exist for this year) and then 32m next season (20m remaining signing bonus proration and 12m remaining option bonus proration).

They aren't really "****ed" per se, but they are going to lose 2 years of a rookie QB deal that are always quite valuable in building out the roster around him.

From a cash perspective, they are just singing kumbaya around a stack of 17m in crisp dollar bills, toasting marshmallows. The rest has already been put in his bank account.

Sick of the media asking where a good fit for Wilson is. There isn't one. If a team is paying you 39 mil to not be there at all you have no fit.

BINGO !!!

This was the dirty little secret about Wilson is that he was NOT a student of the game nor did he have to be in those "Legion of Boom" years. Just be athletic and move around and throw deep or hand off. You want to talk about defense carrying a QB.

Pete covered for Geno as well. Pete's offense's don't ask the QB to do much and why Geno at least looked respectable. Geno will go back to being Geno if he goes to another team that would actually ask him to be a full thinking QB.

Desperation move on George's part because AR fell through and they had no QB for the fanbase to be excited about soooooooooo.........Russell's past success will excite the fanbase and now you know the rest of the story.

Sadly, it was the best thing to do and it’s an unfortunate that the GM survives.

They do not need to trade up in the draft either… trade down if anything.

In58men 03-06-2024 07:09 AM

Is this the worst trade/deal ever given to a player?

245 million and got what in return? A non-winning spiritual QB? Yikes

I wonder if you'll draft a QB with your pick.

Failing that there's a couple of guys in free agency that you can get. I've heard Russell Wilson could be available for as little as $1.2m on a vet minimum because his former team are covering his salary. That could be a pretty sweet deal for the Broncos to get an experienced QB like that so cheaply.

Steelers are jerkin that gerkin on the thought of landing Russ supposedly

Plenty of teams with cap space are looking at Cousins. He ain’t going to Dungver!

Someone’s gotta fall on the sword for Paidaton. PaysATon fits that bill nicely!

Not surprising, but it does look like Wilson is well aware of the cap advantage he can give to a team. I'm not scared of him per se, but I do hope he ends up in the NFC. It'd be annoying to have the Steelers (for example) suddenly end up with a legitimate, if mediocre, QB.

https://bleacherreport.com/articles/...-to-be-bargain

Yeah, if he could sign on for the vet min, he could have real value. Basically anyone shitting on their current QB has to be at least marginally interested. Even if they're looking at an Alex Smith type bridge situation.
