Here is my Lab at 1 year. She is 65 Lbs so a bit small for a Lab but still very strong.

Had to say goodbye to this guy a week ago today (Arrow on the right). His sister (Sofie on the left) from the same litter got real sick last year and we had to put her down. When this thread was started I had 4 pets. Now I have none.

That's heartbreaking, brother. I'm sorry you've had to go through that.

Man, that too bad. It's hard as hell losing one let alone all 4.

I'm sorry for your loss.

Take it from a family who took an ~18 month break from having pets, don't wait 18 months.

That sucks.

Go get a couple of shelter pets needing a good home and do it all over again.

I should clarify that the old mutt, Sasha, was 18.5 years old when we had to put her down about 5 years ago. She lived way longer than anyone expected. She was a great dog but not exactly a buddy like my boxers were. The cat was also 18+ years old when she died a couple years ago. So while I was sad to see them go those were a little easier.

I appreciate all the comments. I want to get another dog (or two) but we plan to sell our house in about 3 years when our daughter is out of high school. We should be in a better financial situation to do that then. And we know it's a pain to try to do showings when you have pets. So we decided to take a break until we move. It's killing me but I know it's probably for the best.

I get that. About 1 1/2 years ago I had to put down my 18 year old beagle. While I loved the old gal it wasn't as hard as some of my other pets. She'd lived a long, good life and it was her time.
