EU Parliament ratifies Brexit agreement

The European Parliament voted Wednesday to approve the Brexit agreement, which will take effect on Friday at midnight in Brussels.

According to the BBC, the agreement passed in a 621-49 vote, with 13 abstentions. The vote came more than 3 1/2 years after British voters backed withdrawing from the European Union...

Sturgeon left red faced as Priti Patel rejects separate Scottish post-Brexit visa system

NICOLA STURGEON'S demand for a separate Scottish post-Brexit visa system has been rejected.

The First Minister published a document yesterday outlining a number of ways the Scottish system could diverge from the rest of the UK. But the plans were roundly rejected by the Home Office who said immigration would “remain a reserved matter”.

Brexit fisheries policy unveiled: EU to require licence for access to UK waters

FOREIGN boats will need a licence to fish in British waters after Brexit, it was announced yesterday.

The requirement forms part of a new fisheries law that was introduced into parliament that will give the UK greater control over its maritime areas.

The Fisheries Bill means EU vessels will have to abide by UK law if they enter UK waters and will end any automatic right the boats formerly held.

It will be the first time since 1973 that Britain will have been able to control which fishing vessels enter its waters.

The Fisheries Bill outlines a legal guarantee that the UK will quit the Common Fisheries Policy when it stops following the EU's rules at the end of 2020.

It means that UK ministers, rather than Brussels, will decide which foreign vessels can catch fish in British waters from 2021 onwards.

Probably about the same as with empire building and nation consolidation.

Unless I have my history wrong, Queen Elizabeth I died, and the heir to the thrown was James of Scotland. He became King of England, unifying the two Kingdoms.

So they didn't just give up. It was more like it looked like they won, but it turned out the English had pulled a fast one, like some sort of slick corporate trick.
