I'm not at all a "gun guy." Is this illegal because uzi's specifically are banned in California, or is there some other element at play here that I'm missing?

Yeah. Like I said, with an ATF license. Also true "Uzis" are fully automatic. To my knowledge the semi-auto's are knock-offs, I haven't looked into them in years though so I could be mistaken.

Was wondering the same thing. If he is a felon (I have no idea) it would be illegal for him to carry any fire arm if not then it has to be a thing having to do with the type of weapon he had in his possession considering there is nothing about him brandishing, using, or even holding the firearm based on what we know early.

Assuming it's an automatic, that's the real problem. Those are federally banned. I'm not sure what they do to a non-felon who wasn't using one to commit a crime, but my understanding is the penalties are harsh enough to make it a very bad idea. Just googling around sounds like state laws come into play as well. Again, not entirely sure how bad this situation is, but would like to hear somebody report on the possible range of outcomes.

They are restricted. But anyone with the time, money, and a pristine criminal record may own a fully automatic firearm, so long as it was manufactured before 1986. |
