50 Beers to Try Before You Die

Thought the beer snobs here might like this article (and probably critique the hell out of it).

http://www.wisdeo.com/articles/view_post/2984
(CBS) You've heard of "100 Bottles of Beer on the Wall"?

How about 50 to try before you die?!
Spoiler!

They need to be aged. The booziness wears off a bit over time. I drank a 2009 bottle this year and found the bourbony flavor had changed to more of a molasses flavor. Very good and it had mellowed quite nicely.

Really? How long and how (bottle placement...etc)? Educate me in PM or on here if you get a chance or have time. I have two bottles left and really want to try the Coffee Stout. I may get it tomorrow if they have any left.

On that note, I had a bottle of Dogfish pumpkin ale that sat in the fridge for a month or so and while I wasn't impressed with it at all when fresh...it had more pumpkin flavor after it sat.

Just keep them some place cool and dark. I think that the BCS bottles say they're good for up to 5 years of aging in the bottle. They're probably fine for more, but I've never had one older than 3-4 years before.

I really only age imperial stouts, barley wines, sours, wild ales and lambics. Any IPAish beer isn't a good candidate for aging, as the hops will fade out of the flavor profile over time. There are obviously some exceptions to that rule, but I don't age Hopslam, Sculpin or Pliny The Elder. Those babies are meant to be drank while fresh.

People are going to hate me.

At this point in time I'm not a huge fan of Tank 7.

Again, I'm just a young beer n00b.

I love the beer at first sip -- it is the after taste that gets me. Just not a fan of that right now.

Awesome. Thanks for the info. I did a little more research and will be putting my other two in the basement in a cabinet for a while. The underneath of our front porch will be perfect I think. Poured walls, constant temp...just need a cabinet.

They will definitely change for the better with a little bit of age on them. Just stash them away and forget about them until next year. Then, next year, you can try a fresh one and an aged one side by side.

Found Rye on Rye on tap tonight. That is nectar of the gods and frankly, I believe that descriptor is overused.

Barley's Brewhaus in Overland Park is going to have the only keg of La Folie in KS this Friday at 5 PM.

It's somewhere between a sour/wild ale and a Flanders Oud Bruin. VERY sour. It'll be a hoot!
