*****The Patrick Mahomes Thread*****

IT ****ING HAPPENED

OP UPDATE:

Because of all the interest in this thread, I've place all of the video content of Patrick Mahomes II's college career, and draft day goodness into a single post that can be found here. Enjoy!

Lynch is fine as a GM. But there are at least a dozen GMs in the NFL at his level or better. Let's not put him on a pedestal.
I dunno, seems like Lynch has turned that team around pretty quickly. He got them to a SB and a 4th qtr lead.

Maybe he was saying that if Smith had been just a little better than he was, we may have never traded up to take Mahomes.

So, Smith got us Mahomes?

Honestly, Smith choosing to run out of a clean pocket for no reason and bailing out from throwing to Tyreek deep in the divisional game against the Steelers seemed to get the Chiefs FO's attention. That one play (probably the most gif'd up play of all time on here) may have cost Smith his job in KC. I don't know if I'd credit Smith for getting Mahomes for that reason - but I'll always appreciate how he mentored Mahomes in 2017 and gave him the keys to start kicking ass in 2018. Few quarterbacks would have handled their inevitable deposition in that way.

I am not sure what he was attributing to Smith, I was just guessing.

I will always respect Smith for his class and professionalism. I will also always contend that the Indy game was NOT his fault. Reid coached possibly the worst game of his career that day, and even though Smith didn't come through at the end of the game, he played a great game overall. He played well enough to win.

I was actually watching a lot of old highlights, and a couple of old games, and it's amazing how a franchise QB and a SB victory can make Smith look really good in the highlights. I never wanted Smith, and pretty much hated him the entire time he was here, but I have to admit that he made a lot of really good plays in his time here. Unfortunately, he made bad plays when it mattered most.

Like you said, watching Tyreek run free in that Pittsburgh game was one of the single most egregious displays of Smith's situational suckage.

You could say Smith got us Fuller or Smith got us to the playoffs or Smith helped to develop Mahomes, but got us Mahomes? Nope.

Playoff frustration with Smith got us Mahomes is where I think he was with that statement and I agree. No way Smith takes us to the promised land. I think we hashed that around enough over the last few years, no?

"Contract unlike any other."

Percentage of salary cap or possibly guaranteed to stay the highest paid even when new guys jump ahead of him? "Guaranteed to stay at least $1 higher than the newest guy with the biggest contract." Or language along those lines?

this play made me madder than the Mariota touchdown, than the bullshit call on DJ for roughing the passer, than Lin Elliott's missed kicks.

It was just such a perfect encapsulation of Chiefs playoff failures for decades where we just couldn't get it going on offense.

The only play that made me madder in Chiefs playoff history was Dee Ford.

Just put another notch in the post of how much character Patrick has.

I don't want to put him on too high of a pedestal because he is still human, but he just keep impressing the hell out of me.
