Short common name that is NOT on my BC. WTF puts a short common name on BC? If that is the case then it's your name and not a short common name.

If anyone asks me if I prefer Dave or David, I say David. I never reference myself as Dave. Being called Dave is weird for me for some reason.
I'm terrible with remembering names so I usually tell them that right up front when I meet them. |

My name is Daniel. I go by Dan and pretty much my nieces/nephews and my grandparents refer to me as Danny.

My mom wanted to name me Kristen. She liked the K name wince my older brother's name also started with a K. However, my dad din't like it because people would call my Kris or Krissy or something. He didn't like shortened nicknames. So, I go by the name as printed on my birth certificate. It also has to capital letters.

For me, my grandpa, my dad, me and my oldest son all have the same first name and different middle names. My grandpa went by his first name and the rest go by our middle names. My dad did use his first name professionally and so did I in the Army and in college, where it was difficult to inform people that I don't use that name. In the Army, it was weird because my friends would call me by my middle name and everyone else called me by my first name. |

This thread, for some reason, reminds me of a weird name situation in my boyfriend's family. His grandpa was Frederick Lewis. His dad is Fredrick Louis. I guess they didn't want a junior. His grandpa went by Fred, and his dad goes by Rick. The similar name, although spelled different, has given his dad a lot of headaches over the years. My boyfriend and our son share his dad's spelling of the middle name Louis.

For some cruel reason my sister and I both go by our middle names. It's been a hassle to this day at work and other places
