Ten Things About Todays Game Week 12: KC 27 - Bucs 24

Ten Things About Today’s Game Week 12: KC 27- TB 24

10. Does anybody have any fingernails left? During the game broadcast they kept showing those old New England highlights of Tommy Boy ripping our heart out, showing it to us and then laughing at us. We won’t have the satisfaction of kicking his ass in an AFC Championship game to get even for 2018, and I don’t think he’s going to the Super Bowl this year. He just lost the third game in November for the first time ever in his career. He lost this one at home, and got his ass kicked at home by New Orleans a couple weeks ago. He’s still the master of the six yard crossing pattern or hitting short to intermediate fades. Bucs drop to 7-5 but will probably make the playoffs. They’ve got a pretty easy schedule left; Atlanta twice (although the ATL embarrassed the Faid today), Minnesota, and Detroit, who fired their head coach after Thanksgiving. They should win two or three of those games for sure. But somebody's going to stomp on him if they do make the playoffs. He's showing his age, and if you beat on him, his stamina is affected.

9. This game was the first time we’ve played in Tampa in eight years, and was a lot closer than it should have been. On KC’s first drive, Andy tries a cutesy double lateral play to try to hit Mahomes for a TD, but the pass from Kelce got knocked away. On 4th and 1 they kick the 19 yard field goal, the shortest field goal you can kick. In the 2nd quarter you have a 14 point swing. Patrick gets strip sacked on the Bucs 14 yard line; then Tommy goes on a 86 yard drive, capped by a gimme score to Jones, 37 yard TD when Sorensen couldn’t take the right angle to knock the guy out of bounds. Just terrible safety play. That made it 17-7. At least KC came back with a field goal to get three of those points back and into halftime 20-7. Hopefully we'll be playing back on this field again in February for the Super Bowl.

8. Tyreek Hill had the game that may put him into Canton. On National TV, he dominates the first quarter of the game, 203 yards and two TDs in the first quarter, ended up with 13 catches for 269 and three TDs. I don’t play fantasy football, but he racked up 44 points, and I believe that’s an amazing total for one game. His biggest play in the game may have been his final catch, to secure a first down and allow for a victory formation and keep Tommy Boy on the bench. That guy Carlton Davis who had to cover Tyreek today is probably going to need therapy. He’s got to be having serious self esteem issues for awhile.

7. Mahomes showing should get him the MVP. He had 359 yards passing in the first half alone. It’s usually not good if your QB has to throw almost 50 times in a single game, but the Bucs are the number one defense against the run. They suck against the pass. Mahomes ended up with 462 yards passing, three passing TDs, and no picks. He actually threw a couple picks but they were thrown when a defensive flag was tossed, and Patrick knew he had a free play. Both were waived off. Kelce quietly had another great game. He was targeted eight times, caught all eight balls for 82 yards. Gronk had six catches for 106, but 48 of those was on one play when our defense blew coverage and let him run free down the seam. Neither guy had a TD.

6. This was a big win but there’s still a lot of stuff that needs to be fixed. Again this week, neither Chris Jones or Frank Clark did as much as they should be doing for what they’re paid. They had a few hurries, and had zero sacks against a patchwork Bucs Offensive Line. Jones roughed Brady and almost drew another personal foul when jawing with Brady when they held the Bucs to a field goal in the 3rd quarter. Clark sustained the last Bucs scoring drive by giving Brady 30 yards worth of roughing the passer penalties. Okafor and Danna shared the only sack. That’s just not getting it done. Luckily Tampa got off to a terrible start. They had only one first down in their first four drives. In the second half the Bucs last five drives were a Field Goal, Pick, Pick, TD and TD.

5. Hardman was hit and miss. He dropped a sure TD with about five minutes left in the third quarter. He turned the wrong way for the ball and should have caught it. He did have a nice catch in the fourth quarter to convert a third down; but our offensive line decided to draw three straight holding penalties to snuff the drive. It was nice to have Watkins back. He didn’t do a whole lot -4 catches for 38 yards- but our offense just seems to hum when he’s in the lineup.

4. KC’s special teams were mixed again. Did you know KC is worst in the NFL in drawing penalties on special teams? Buttkicker did his job, hit both field goal attempts and all this XPAs. Townsend was really mixed. Four punts, one for 54 yards, but he shanked a couple for around 30 yards each trying to kick away from Antonio Brown. Team wise ten penalties for 82 yards is way too many. If you get penalized ten times on the road and win, you’re playing with fire. Sometime that's gonna burn you.

3. CEH did a nice job in the fourth quarter running for decent yards and staying in bounds. Weird to say Andy’s clock management help salt this one away, but it did. The two biggest plays were the first down runs by Mahomes. KC got the ball with four minutes left, and was able to burn all four minutes. Bucs used their last time out with 3:10 left. Just a great job getting positive yards and burning that clock. Well done.

2. I know O’Daniel went out with an ankle sprain. Patrick took a cheap hit on the knees that wasn’t called, but luckily it didn’t affect him. When you drop back to pass 49 times you’re going to get some bumps and bruises. The Bucs front seven is maybe the best in the NFL. Fisher did decent playing on a bad ankle, and Remmers did OK against Suh. We need to draft or pick up a free agent center next year. Chiefs got shut out in the fourth quarter, which doesn’t happen very often. Team only scored seven in the second half, which is a testament to the Bucs defense. We just had enough to hold them off.

1. So, when we looked at the schedule on road games, you figure the tough games would be Baltimore, Vegas, Buffalo and Tampa Bay. We won all four of those road games. Patrick is 19-4 career in road games. That’s amazing. The whole rest of the AFC West lost today. Faiders got their ass kicked in Atlanta. Bolts lost to the Bills, but almost won on a final play Hail Mary. Donks Fourth String QB Hinton threw for 13 yards, and gets to come to Arrowhead next week. Chiefs have a four game lead with five left to play in the AFC West, and the Faiders are the only other team with a winning record; and they’re 6 and 5. We may be the only team from the West in the AFC playoffs. Pittsburgh is going to get off easy on Tuesday with the Covid Bowl. About the only team that might be able to hang a loss on them would be the Colts or the Browns. They might run the table. December should be an interesting month.

CEH looked ok today but this type of game is exactly why we got Leveon. He was excellent today. CEH is a better back in most games but today was meant for Leveon. Especially with as much as they ask of him in the passing game.

In terms of schedule... This was a huge win. Our magic number for the division is now 1. I'm also looking at Cleveland and Buffalo's schedules and they have a few potential losses in there. The magic number is 3 for a bye week but it's probably more like 1 or 2. We probably own the tiebreaker with Cleveland. Buffalo on the other hand is more even so we'll need to root for them to lose.
How do you not know there's only 1 bye

I am not saying that you are wrong, but to me it looked more like Hardman was
a little anxious, and he tried to start running before he secured the ball.

It would have been nice to have that one back, but luckily it didn't change the outcome of the game.

I think that Romo said it right during the game, talking about Fantasy Football, "if you have Tyreek Hill on your team, then you win".

Great writeup George. Never disappoints.

The second one I have no clue what Clark was thinking there, unless he was just trying to get in Brady's head. Otherwise, it was just a really dumb penalty to take. Which I thought was weird, because Clark doesn't do stuff like that. He doesn't try to hurt the opposing QBs, or try to get in late hits, or go after a QB's knees, in fact he always pulls up, sometimes having to pull off a pretty athletic play in the process, if he sees the ball is gone. But today he made an effort to whack brady in the skull twice. Not his normal behavior at all.

Anyway, great write up again, G. Though I'm not entirely sure that Clark and Jones didn't do more than most think in that game. I'll have to watch the coaches film later this week and see for sure.

GO CHIEFS!!!
I thought the 2nd penalty was suspect but I'd have to watch it again as I was pretty charged up from the comeback going on.

All that matters is we won.

I agree. We should have hung 45 on Carolina, but Tampa Bay is just about a 1/2 step away from being a contender. The Raiders--who knows.
I don't think TB's O-line was as decimated as we thought. I'm pretty sure they had their regular starters at LT and LG yesterday. Clark and Jones need to step up and quit drawing stupid penalties.
Our O-line, save Fisher playing on a gimpy leg, is a collection of JAGs and not good enough to be a JAG.

were we really pushed by Carolina and Tampa though? we led the Panthers by 9 points (twice) in the 4th quarter.

We were also 27-10 up on the Bucs yesterday, before they made things look a bit more respectable.

Seems like on both occassions we relaxed a bit with a sizeable lead, and then made sure we closed the deal, rather than engaging in some kind of nail biting back and forth battle, which is what the final scoreline might indicate.

This was a nail biting event. Chiefs had a big day against Brady and even though it was a close battle til the end, the Chiefs did finish with the win.

"Chiefs have a four game lead with five left to play in the AFC West".

So we clinch next week then.

I don't get to see the Chiefs other than Redzone a lot so it was interesting to see so many new/old names playing on defense. Sneed, Thornhill and a couple others come to mind. Need 1 more guy on the DL to put some pressure. Kpass? Defense was much better yesterday but still not a championship D.

Titans look like us last year. Getting their D hot at the right time.

Thanks George.

Yesterday afternoon I left Amazon early to watch the entire game.

On the way out the door I hit the bathroom to take a leak and got to Piss all over Brady! Good luck for sure.

Take a look........
