Puffy helmets

How do they pick who wear the goofy looking padded helmets? Are they based on head injuries we’re not privy to? It seems random.

at TC the other day...it was the front 7 on defense and the whole OL. Probably a few others that are at risk.

I feel like I've seen running backs wear them more than anybody, but that differs from what everyone else is saying.

I still don't understand why they use such hard materials in football gear. Shits basically a weapon.

I think it’s any position you’ll see in the trenches besides the QB, of course.

OL, DL, LBs, TEs, and RBs.

I read an article about it when they first rolled these out and I want to say that’s it.. I suppose the numbers don’t show WRs and guys in the secondary are at greater risk while just wearing the normal helmets.

Though I will say that it seems like a dumb thing for the league to do. They’re essentially admitting that these players are at great risk of sustaining TBIs while suiting up in normal helmets in Sundays.

They're called GUARDIAN CAPS (named for the company Guardian who makes them) and they're mandatory this year for all 32 teams OL, DL, RBs/FBs, LBs, TEs all have to wear them in camp.

Apparently it reduces helmet impact by ten percent. Reduces camp concussive injuries.

So then, why not wear them all season?

Bet you guys would love that.

Just don't wear two guardian caps at the same time, it reduces the effectiveness.

That would mean ACTUALLY prioritizing player safety. Not just putting on a show.

I wonder if helmets should just end up being made from a softer material. In general

There’s a theory out there that if they wore safer equipment they’d just hit harder. Arguably the lighter the equipment, the more people would take it easier. I don’t know if it’s the hardness of the equipment as much as it is defenders trying to hit stick guys instead of form tackling
