Always impressed with how traveled people on CP are. Anyone spent time in Istanbul?

Meant “well traveled” in the title…

Targeting next fall to visit Turkey for a few weeks and explore Istanbul. Surprised at the affordability of flights to get out there through Delta.

Any recommendations?

It's on my list, but alas, I have not made it there yet. Turkey seems to have a lot of interesting stuff.

Wanted something big and different and was deciding between it and Tokyo. I think I would want to spend some more time learning about Japanese culture before I drop myself into that city.

But yea Istanbul looks like a great mix of old world charm and a modern city. The food looks incredible and there is history everywhere. It’s also interesting how it spans two continents.

Need to figure out the ins and outs of their public transport because the traffic seems to be a mess.

I coincidentally just booked tickets to Japan today...for a year from now. (I play the award travel game and found a business class redemption that I liked.) After your trip, let's exchange notes.

Posting this from a sleeper train somewhere between Budapest and Prague, so... goodnight. Had a great time in the former, though, so it's on my recommendations list for a short trip at least!

It's still a year away, so we haven't done much planning aside from buying a flight. We'll be there maybe 10ish days, so if you have recommendations, I'd love to hear them. In general, I'm thinking we'll spend a few days in Tokyo and then get out for a bit, but it's all flexible.

Oh hell yea, some of those train trips look like so much fun. Be safe and have a blast.

I hope you follow in the footsteps of Grant Wahl and wear your pride t-shirt there. The Muslims of Constantinople are some of the most tolerant in the world. You will be welcomed.
