I mean the only upside I can say is his most recent stint in NY he did pretty well with marginal talent.
He had more pieces to work with than your post seems to lead towards.

9 top 10 defenses in 12 years is worse? His worst defenses were better than Spagnuolo's average.

We know he'd be much better than Sutton. Do we know that Spagnuolo would be?

When you are hiring after everyone else already did...this kinda shit happens, sad but true.

But yeah the list isn't long, I'd like a guy who has coached multiple teams to this level of numerous years.

Nope. He barely holds up in a 3/4 he is so undersized to begin with IMHO. He has never been good against the run(setting the edge or stuffing the run) and is very challenged intellectually to be that full complete LB in the 3/4 so finally they gave in(Sutton/staff) and just let him rush 90% of the time and this is when he improved BUT it came with a cost.

In the 4/3 you wouldn't even see Ford he would be swallowed up so quickly.

I agree with many others on this board if we switch to the 4/3 he is gone.

This will be a solid hire. Mark my words. they'll be middle to upper third next year defensively.
So hes gonna fix the defense? This sounds familiar...

The Vikings defense got ****ing torched by good offenses this year...

And the Bears example is nothing more than they have elite talent, something we won't have with what this team is going to be.

Yeah, "hey, don't pay attention to the people that have watched him most closely over the past several years" is pretty much as stupid a response as could be provided there.

Inmem is really covering himself in glory in this thread. He's just been a veritable fountain of useful information here.

I don't go off points, I'm going of yards all those teams held opponents to a average of 300 yards per game.
