The Martian as dinner theater

Probably in the minority here, but "The Martian" is on right now while I eat dinner and get ready for work, and I just really like this movie.

Yes, there's no character development of Damon's character, and yes, some of the science is soft, but it's entertaining, and loaded with some great one-liners and funny scenes.

And who wouldn't want to be the world's first space pirate?

It's a great movie. It's every boy's dream to get stranded alone on an alien planet.

There are some movies that you can rewatch and when they're sci-fi that makes them even cooler. I find the same in the Tom Cruise movie War of the Worlds, especially in the beginning when the alien ship comes up out of the ground. The second Aliens movie was another I could rewatch again, even more than the first.

I like it overall and agree with OP's premise. But it's got it's cringe-worthy moments. Jeff Daniels is spectacular as usual.
