Off Season Lets Talk Guns, Part 2

Been a while since we had a guns n' ammo discussion.

Some of you are AR shooters Im sure. Im looking at a Colt 6920. Will be my first AR. Picked up a Glock this fall and really enjoy shooting it. Any feedback on that weapon?

Anyone else been in a buy/sell/trade mood with hardware?

Interesting side note on that, the guy who came into Kimber and started ****ing things up (name escapes me at the moment) moved on to Sig and there are now some Kimber type rumblings starting to occur in the Sig world. Anyway, I’ve been seeing fewer complaints as of late in regards to Kimber. But I’d actually recommend a different direction, especially for a first time 1911 purchase.

Randall brought up his love of Springfield and in some of the reading and researching I was doing - I had a fair amount of free time on my hands recently - SA kept being mentioned. In fact, if I remember correctly, it was a forum discussion about purchasing a SA 1911 vs a Sig 1911 where a gunsmith was singing the praises of the current crop of SA 1911s as not only having the fewest out of the box issues of any of the mainline makers but, the numbers were even lower than what he would consider typical for the model.

Combine that with their number of options ranging [from what used to be] affordable to higher end builds and that is where I’d tell someone to look first.

Indeed. My first SA was an M1A - have had it for years, a beautiful piece. I remember years ago SA was under a lot of scrutiny for their "political stance" that they took on an issue or two. They changed that "stance" quickly....

My very first 1911 was a Colt - had it in Viet Nam. That particular pistol now resides on the wall of my study in a place of honor. I haven't actually fired her in well over 10 years. However, she saved my life on more than one occasion. Please don't ask how I was able to keep her after I returned to "the world". Back then - funny things just "happened".....

I will, however, state this: my first love is the 1911 - but I am still a Sig man. Sig Sauer and Springfield Armory guy. That having been said, I understand that SA is having something of a problem with their Hellcat (trigger)...so no company is without "fault"..

I bought my Wife (some years ago) a PPK - she's damned good with it. Highly reliable piece.

About 3 years ago (old assed memory ) I bought her a Bersa Thunder. She loves it as well. That damned pistol NEVER has a problem - no FTF, No hangups of any kind.

The point to all of this is that you might was to consider a lower priced PPK clone or, hell, even go with a SCCY. My Son carries one (and has for the last 5 or so years) and he absolutely swears by them. Just a thought....

Went to the range last weekend. Took the wife and she shot "our" Walther P99. Easy gun for her to shoot with accuracy. I have a Glock 29 (10mm) that is my carry most of the time. She did not like shooting that one.

I took another look. This thing has some nice add'ls. Bravo brand stock, MLOK handguard, Elite 2-stage trigger . . . all decent aftermarket stuff. I originally thought it was just a stock Ruger AR, and honestly that would be a decent price for a brand new stock Ruger AR these days.

Never mind. I just looked at Ruger's website. They have something called the MPR AR556, which comes with all of those nice add'ls from the factory. Didn't know they were doing that. If you can find one at that price, and you're looking for an AR, it would be kind of dumb not to buy it.

The prices are going up on all scary black rifles daily, so yeah, that's a decent buy in today's current environment.

Yep. I browsed through GB last weekend and found my Windham Weaponry on there for more than $1000. More than $300 over what I paid back in 2012. And that was a bone stock gun as far as I could tell.

Heck, I saw a S&W Shield 2.0 on there for $500. I paid $300 just a couple years ago.
