If you have a deep roster and are lacking a franchise QB, you aren't mortgaging much of anything.

We haven't won anything meaningful in almost 50 years. How much worse can it really be? I'd be fine with continually trying to find a QB and failing. I'm not fine with not even trying at all.

I didn't say don't try. Just don't destroy/weaken other aspects of your team (particularly defense), trying to get that QB.
