Do we really break the bank for Tyreek?

Hear me out. No doubt Tyreek has been great and has obvious chemistry with Mahomes. But do we really make him one of the highest paid WRs?

Here are my thoughts against this:

1) From having watched Mahomes through college, I have observed he really likes taller receivers who can go high to get the ball. Mahomes has of course had success with smaller slot receivers like Keke Coutee but a big bodied receiver can be just as deadly paired with Mahomes. Maybe draft a second receiving tight end?

2) We saw how easy it was to get Reek out of the game completely in the AFCCG. Paying reek would likely even mean there is no Watkins on the other side either.

3) Raw speed, in my humble opinion, is the fastest depreciating asset for any pro-athlete. Who is to say Tyreek from two years later will be faster than a fresh 21 year old coming out of college with a similar skill set?

4) The chemistry Tyreek and Patrick have was built in one off season. I am sure Mahomes can replicate that with mostly anyone. He got Albert Wilson paid last year.

Not saying Tyreek isn't great, he is a unicorn for sure but I am wary of the big money being discussed for his new deal.

We massively over paid Watkins but at least it will be over after 19. I hope Hill sees the big picture and is not abgreedy bastard like Berry and Houston. They gave two shits about having the team be good.

We’d be a 5th seed if it wasn’t for Tyreek Hill

Maybe even 6th

It's a little concerning that after his big game against LAR he was relatively quiet the rest of the season. Hill had two 100 yard games but since week 11 and through the playoffs he finished the year with only 1 receiving touchdown over the last 2 months. I'm not sure if the blame falls on Hill or Mahomes, but we clearly saw Mahomes and Hill struggling to connect like they were earlier in the year.

I think he was hurt and the injury took away some of his explosiveness. At least he played through it though and was still effective.

He was hurt and that apparently affected his explosiveness, which is the point Cerveza brings up. As soon as he starts to lose his speed, how much is he worth?

He will never be slow, just slower than he is now. He has improved his route running a huge amount, and as he ages, he will learn all the veteran tricks. So even when he does slow down he will still be a great receiver.

In my opinion, Tyreek in 2 years will become a true superstar WR that is uncoverable to the level that Julio Jones is. Also, at some point, Mahomes is going to master the deep ball to Tyreek, and that is just frightening.

edit: Also, imagine a slightly slower Tyreek playing a role like Edelman. I think he would absolutely murder teams from that position if the Chiefs have decent threats on the outside.
