They have sucked for 3 years, and they got worse this offseason.

The unit sucks, top to bottom. It's nothing new. It's been flatlining since Houston blew up his knee the first time. Nothing has been done to address it.

What we are seeing is the continuation of a completely consistent pattern of failure on that side of the ball. Everyone who created the turnovers the defense could once hide behind is either gone, or a shell of their former selves.

It takes an incredible amount of homerism and willful ignorance to think that this unit isn't exactly what it has been for years now.

"The fact that some of you don't understand that context is hilarious."
It is kind of hard to have a pass rush when the refs let the other team BLATANTLY hold our guys for 2 weeks in a row. Then when Houston finally breaks free and makes a Huge play- they **** us out of it on a NFL bullshit call.

I'd prefer a more big play/high risk defense than the prevent style shit that Sutton is putting out there.

More blitzes, more trying to create turnovers, etc.

If that gives up big plays so be it, but I'd rather go with that risk than giving up incremental chunks on 10-12 play drives that keeps #15 off the field.

Even if you assume Berry is going to get back eventually, be able to stay healthy, and return to playing at a high level and sustain it given his injury history, upgrading one position in the back doesn't matter when you only have one guy capable of generating a push. A QB with all day to throw and plenty of other targets is still going to burn up the field all day long.

Outside of Chris Jones, who else is really disrupting the passing game? Dee Ford on a few plays?

He's not all that wrong actually.

He said one guy can "generate push". At a bare minimum, Houston, Ford, and Jones can do that. When they sent him, Hitchens was absolutely collapsing the pocket as well. Problem is they were constantly sending a three man rush. Not to mention times when Ben escaped where no other QB in the game would have. Lots of this will addressed if Berry is healthy and playing at 80%+.

There were plenty of 4-man rushes that generated zero push. Justin Houston is surviving pretty much on name only at this point.

The secondary not being a shit show and allowing quick completions could give the pass rush more time to get to the quarterback.

Houston should have had a sack if not for the bs penalty on scandrick. Also, Houston and co. were being held on nearly every play. Not sure how you can make a judgement on their play when the refs allow blatant holding.

Every team holds, every game. Yet somehow other teams get sacks.

Plus, Houston has been virtually non-existent for more than an entire season. It isn't just one game.
