Who's been to/lived in Maine?

Mrs. SNR and I are planning a summer trip in about mid-July, and one state for some reason that we've always had our sights set on visiting is Maine. It seems like the quaint state covered in trees and people with funny-sounding accents. I had a friend in college from Brunswick (where Bowdoin College is), and all he could talk about were the amazing beaches and parks in the southern part of the state. We'll definitely explore that area, but if we wanted to go to a beach, we'd go somewhere tropical.

Any other hot spots or knowledge of the state with only one border? We're willing to do a variety of things (historical monuments, parks, trails, what have you).

No kidding. I went to a wedding there and the cake was a giant, layered whoopie pie.

I am guessing they will pick out a trojan whoopie pie faster than you can say "ayuh"

I'm still in, though. I watched several episodes of north woods law so I know the state pretty well. Plus I know a few residents that we might be able to get to quisle with us. Although the people of Maine are simple country folk, we still might need someone to lead the ChiefsPlanet Immortals through a crucial mountain pass or something.

They're usually on the typical hot dog bun—the ones without the crust on the sides. I've actually never seen one on a bun like that pic.

I paid $16 in Tampa this week. But I've paid as low as $10 in Maine which had a very generous serving of lobstah. Lowest I've paid for just a fresh lobstah to boil in Maine was $3 but that was sometime around 1997/98.

That's mostly the interior rural parts. Portland, Freeport and other places are more sophisticated. Geesh!

Vacationed in Ogunquit Maine. We had a blast, loved Maine. Don't bother with the lobster rolls, unless of course you enjoy cold tasteless seafood. And I really mean tasteless. I should have brought my hot sauce......

Used to take the Mrs. for long bike cruises through those winding roads enjoying the beauty.
44 between Eureka and Rolla is an unsung gem for fall foliage.
