Who's been to/lived in Maine?

Mrs. SNR and I are planning a summer trip in about mid-July, and one state for some reason that we've always had our sights set on visiting is Maine. It seems like the quaint state covered in trees and people with funny-sounding accents. I had a friend in college from Brunswick (where Bowdoin College is), and all he could talk about were the amazing beaches and parks in the southern part of the state. We'll definitely explore that area, but if we wanted to go to a beach, we'd go somewhere tropical.

Any other hot spots or knowledge of the state with only one border? We're willing to do a variety of things (historical monuments, parks, trails, what have you).

Thanks for all the suggestions. I'm especially interested in Camden and Moosehead lake from the things I've been seeing and subsequently researching.

Bump for nice places to see in Maine.

Some of my pics are gone. So here's a new one of Camden the quintessential New England town in mid Maine.

For the first few years after I left New England, I really missed those fall colors/trees. It is something everyone should experience for more than just a visit.
Used to take the Mrs. for long bike cruises through those winding roads enjoying the beauty.

Perhaps it is time to face the unfortunate truth.

We're going to have to invade Maine.

We've tried every means at our disposal in order to maintain a good relationship with Maine. We've negotiated, engaged in diplomacy, and trade. Still, Maine has defied all reasonable efforts to maintain a lasting peace. Their latest assault upon Mr. Rain Man is surely the last straw.

Unless Maine demonstrates a desire to change soon. Maine must fall.

If we're going to invade maine with a substantial force, we'd better bring a lot of cash for the toll roads.

Been there. Spent a night in a wonderful bed and breakfast in Camden. Hiked some hill in the state park there. That might be where that picture was taken.

Great food, friendly people. I got caught speeding in town and the cop let me off with a thank you for visiting their town.
