That (too much SJW, not enough good movie) is a problem for movies, both in terms of quality and in terms of financial sustainability, and is a very important topic for media discussion. How do you not see that?

Can you identify the "Too much SJW" in JP Fallen Kingdom. My feeble mind is too indoctrinated to notice.

Here's a cut from their review: ...“Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom” is a liberal pulp message movie, yet it treats itself with even more sobriety. The dinosaurs, it turns out, have been targeted by Mills to be sold off to the highest bidder — yes, it’s the first cautionary dinosaur-trafficking movie — and at certain points you may find yourself ticking off the themes. Greed gone rampant among the globalized gilded class? Check. The sinister potential of genetic engineering? Check. The need to protect endangered species? Check. The privatizing of military action? Check. The eerie implications of cloning? Check. The danger of weaponized dinosaurs? Check. I didn’t find any of this stuff especially “fun,” though the cast members certainly treat the political/genetic/social fodder as if it meant something. Chris Pratt tones down the dude factor and exudes a lean-and-mean sincerity... https://variety.com/2018/film/review...tt-1202829194/ If you disagree with any of the points made feel free to enlighten us but don't cry about facts being pointed out just because it dims your virtue signals. |

This. For Christ's sake it's everywhere. I realize it will pass just like every other fad but it is currently at ridiculous proportions.

Globalized gilded classes are a conservative talking point. Ahem "Swamp rats", "Globalists", "George Soros"...any of that ring a bell?
Since when is genetic engineering a leftist issue? Uh, Stem Cell research says hello, which is conservatives are generally against considering you know...abortions. It's conservatives who generally bitch about man "playing god". Well no shit, the movie's cast, as it's always been, is comprised of scientists who love dinosaurs. Them NOT feeling the need to protect them would be pretty 'effin out of character. A common, played out theme that has no political implications unless you're trying to drive a narrative. Quote:

Or has politics consumed you so much that you view everything through a red and blue lens? Because the shit posted from Vanity fair is a stretch, and the most political points are conservative talking points, not liberal. It's nonsense. |

It is. There's no escape anymore. Entertainment's supposed to entertain. If I wanted a sermon I'd go to church. That's why the right's pushing back so hard. They're beyond sick and tired of it. They're being as nice as they can be for now

I see a whole bunch of looking for something that isn't intended. Applying political implications to things that never intended to be political. That's the symptom of the disease known as politics. I think it's been a few weeks, maybe a month since i've last posted in D.C. For a reason. Are there movies that virtue signal? Of ****ing course. Has that ever NOT been the case? And is it politically motivated, or is it a reflection of our culture? |
