I'd rather have King. Jones and King can both play in the middle on 4-down sets and Jones can do so in 3 down alignments. Meanwhile King can play outside and Miller can't.

As a backup, King does far more for you. Miller is nothing but a Logan replacement if Logan gets hurt. Logan's only a 2-down guy anyway so he'll get plenty of bench time and doesn't need a rotational sub.

Miller's old, has no upside and hasn't stood out in any way. King has played great two pre-seasons in a row now and does more for you.

Miller's done nothing to earn that job and doesn't have the pedigree/production in his past to suggest he's vital going forward.

I assume you mean Logan is a 2 down guy.

While I agree with you folks on Miller, Jenkins has played very well for us last year and this preseason. He does give you nose tackle versatility, and he's stout against the run. King is frequently ground into the turf against the run.

It doesn't eat up anything more than the $1.5 million in accelerated signing bonus that they'd end up eating next year anyway. The 'dead money' is already factored into the cap as salary. Cutting a guaranteed salary doesn't make it double count - it's still only in there once.

They can absolutely cut him, I just don't think they will because they don't have any gain in doing it at all. They can just PUP or IR him and maybe bring him back later. Or just leave him at home.

At least at that point they wouldn't take the PR hit of cutting a fan favorite or have to deal with a pissed off locker room.

Yeah.

And I think Jenkins makes the squad. He's solid depth.

Not going to argue that.

Not sure which situation was worse - Bowe's or Hali's. Throw Maclin in there as well.

Maclin's contract was retail -- it wasn't asinine. Hali's pushed asinine.

But I don't think any contract Dorsey ever signed came close to being as truly asinine as the Bowe contract. That was flabbergasting, in retrospect.

They have decisions to make with Peters and Morse in 2018 and in 2019, Tyreek Hill and Dee Ford.

They're not even close to being out of cap hell.
I don't get where you are coming from brother?

According to OTC, they are projected to be 6.5 million over, if the cap increases by a projected 11 million, with DJ, Hali, and Smith all still on the roster... So, let's say the cap doesn't change a bit, they are 17.5 million over. DJ, Hali, and Smith save you that 32 million, putting them roughly 14.5 million to the good. They'll probably be close to that $25 million to the good plus any cap rollover, so probably 3-4 million give or take, giving them probably 29 million to the good. Jah Reid was just cut, which saves another 3.2 million off of next year's cap, putting them at roughly 32 million to the good. Even if the cap doesn't change (doubtful), they'd still be close to 21 million to the good. Why are the Chiefs in cap hell?

Cutting 32 mil and rolling over 5 mil, 37 total, would put them a mil over in 2018?

As of right now come 2018 The're $14 million over a projected $168 (with 50 signed). They'll probably roll about $6 million over to get them up to a cap of $174. I'm rounding to $175 for shits and grins (because $168 is very conservative).

So they're at $182 with Smith, Hali, DJ and Bailey on there. They need to find $7 million which is EXACTLY what they'd clear by cutting Hali. Cap hell solved.

Sure, they need to spend a couple million on picks, probably find a FA or two, but that's all easily managed by restructuring DJ and Bailey. And again, depending on development, it's quite possible that they just walk away from DJ outright (another $8 million) Parker would also likely be open to a restructure. Oh, and we haven't even discussed Smith yet.

The Chiefs can very easily get themselves to $30 million in cap space next year. It wouldn't even sting that much.

They're fine on next year's cap. Logan, Colquitt, Santos, DAT and Fulton are the only real FA concerns and frankly none of them worry me. There are some RFAs like Mitchell, King, RNR and Ramik but if those guys are in line for big raises, that's probably a good thing - they've made themselves valuable.

And again - move Smith, DJ and Hali and there's more than enough room to bring back every one of the RFA's and most of the UFAs.

2019 might be a bitch, but such is the nature of having several good young players. At some point you gotta pay for 'em.

My bold prediction was that DJ White was going to be cut, and I think t happens. My next prediction is that the Chiefs are going to scour the cut lists for a Charcandrick West replacement.

He hasn't been as good as the 2015 version and that stupid ass penalty in Seattle did him zero favors.

No other NFL GM was handing out a $55 million dollar deal to Jeremy Maclin. No one.

Coupled with the loss of a 3rd round pick, there's no other way to describe as anything other than as an asinine (your words) deal.

I'm totally with you and I think it's likely that some of these players are moved (Ramik Wilson, for example) if Eligwe and Ragland become what they expect them to become.

I'm sure that this was all Veach's plan presented to Hunt.

He had a solution for every upcoming player and cap issue and it shows in the moves he's made so far.

Dude, I'm not sure what you're looking at to come to this conclusion. A Post June 1st cut would create $1.25 million in Cap Space but come with $7.34 million in Dead Money.

https://overthecap.com/player/tamba-hali/531

If they cut him after the 2017 season and before the 2018 season, those figures basically flipflop with $1.56 in Dead Money and $7 million in Cap Savings.
