How would YOU try to improve the defense?

Amid all the hysteria over our two wins and offensive performances, I'm just wondering what can realistically be done to improve the defense? Now we know Berry will hopefully be returning soon which should be massive, but with the way this offense is looking, just a slight improvement on defense could take us to the promise land yall. So does Veach sit, be patient and hope Berry is enough to improve things? Should he get on the phone and beg Breeland to join the kingdom? Or should he seek to make a trade of some sort?

I think I'd probably go with trying to get Breeland in and with Berry added to the mix I think the unit would be vastly improved.

...Breeland...Berry...Parker...Fuller...

With Nelson In the slot. Surely that would be enough?

Bob's strategy often works, though.

Bending and bending and bending allows these opposing offenses a lot of opportunities to **** up somewhere. An errant pass, dropped pass, penalty, etc. It's pretty difficult to consistently sustain 10-15 play drives without shooting yourself in the foot.

I don't mind the strategy most times, but when it clearly isn't working, it needs to be canned in favor of some more uptempo aggression.

Step #1: fire Sutton.

Trade for Ronald Darby

Teach defenders to disguise their blitzes. Rivers sniffed them out and checked to screens all day. That didn’t hurt us too bad today, but it will.

Be more aggressive and zone blitz more.

That’s exactly what they did in the 2nd half. Sutton blitzed a lot and it forced a punt in 3 of the last 4 Steeler possessions.

If Conley doesn’t fumble the ball, we ice the game and the defense allows only 9 2nd half points.

His team quit on him? Are you suggesting that Bob Sutton was the mastermind behind Rex Ryan’s success with the Jets?

That is to laugh.

Just keep scoring on offense. They can't stop us. They can't even hope to contain us.

In all honesty?

Quit punting.

Seriously.

https://www.businessinsider.com/why-...r-punt-2013-11

Even if Mahomes only converts 50% of the 4th downs (lower than his completion percentage), it keeps the defense off the field longer due to a shorter field if they fail to convert. That means they are more rested, and even if the other team scores on a short field, Mahomes and Co are back on offense even faster.
