I didn’t watch any of the NFC games the past few weeks, so I didn’t realize how poorly Jimmy G had played. Our D is hungry, and our O won’t stop rolling.

The San Francisco 49ers hope to have running back Tevin Coleman for Super Bowl LIV.
Coach Kyle Shanahan said Monday that Coleman dislocated his shoulder in Sunday's NFC Championship Game win over the Green Bay Packers. The team is awaiting MRI results to confirm the injury. Shanahan noted it usually takes a week of rest to bounce back from such an injury, and he gives the RB a chance to play Feb. 2 against the Kansas City Chiefs. "I don't want to speculate too much, but usually a week to rest it and usually gets back in and I expect him to have a chance to play," Shanahan said. "Can't hold me to that. We'll find out more, but I expect him to have a good chance to play." Coleman rushed six times for 21 yards before leaving after taking a shot that caused the injury early in the second quarter. "This is more of a Lethal Weapon-type thing, where you gotta pop it back in," Shanahan said, noting the famous Mel Gibson flick. With Coleman out, the 49ers leaned on running back Raheem Mostert, who galloped for 220 yards and four TDs on 29 totes. The 49ers' run game has withstood Coleman's brief absences this season, and Mostert displayed all year he's ideally suited for Shanahan's offense. A fresh Matt Brieda also remains waiting in the wings if needed. However, if Coleman can go, that gives an already diverse San Francisco run game another speed element for the coach to play with in Super Bowl LIV. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap300...play-in-sb-liv |

Here's a couple stats for you:
The Chiefs are the first team in the NFL's post-season history to play back-to-back games beginning both of those games down by double digits and then come back to win by double digits. This one is more ridiculous, IMO: The Chiefs, since being down by 24 to HOU, have scored on 13 out of 17 possessions. That's 75% of possessions, people. No other team in history has posted such a number. That may be the most ridiculous playoffs team offensive stat I've ever heard of. |

And now they have to face a team that has proven twice now that in the playoffs running the ball and trying to keep the ball away from Mahomes isn't probably going to work. Which means they are going to have to be significantly more efficient scoring than whatever they've been doing all year. Because it's a fact that Pat and our offense are going to score at a rate above 60%. Call it 5 out of 9 possessions, or 6 out of 10 possessions. 35-42 points. That is the problem the 49ers face in two weeks. How to score on more of their possessions with Garrapolo as the architect of most of those points. Assuming that we take away most of their running game. |

I hope the Spags prepares our Hitchens for a heavy dose of RB swings and flats.

On offense, I hope we run right over the top of Dee Ford every chance we get.

I'm not scared of the 49ers, I was nervous of a Seahawks/Saints matchup

Who knows about that. Niners defense is a lot better than Houston or Tennessee. They have the talent on defense to give KC a hard time for at least a half of football. And they have the run game on offense to keep Mahomes on the sideline as well.

Now, 9 weeks ago, we split fairly evenly between TDs and FGs. But more recently, we've been leaning towards more TDs than FGs. In our two playoff games it's skewed heavily in favor of TDs. I don't know yet what SFs scoring efficiency has been, but I bet it's not been 60%. And to win they will have to out-score us. So they have to score at least 5 times, probably more like 6 times to win. And mostly TDs. |
