Settling the BYU - Andy Reid Legend

Here are all of the players from BYU to ever make an Andy Reid roster. Only once has he ever drafted one.

Matt Bushman, TE (UDFA) - Originally a Raider (2021), got time in 1 game for KC in 2023 with 7 Off snaps.

Zayne Anderson, S (UDFA) - Played in 7 games for KC from 2021 to 2022, recording 1 tackle on 110 ST snaps

Daniel Sorensen, S (UDFA) - 8 Seasons with KC from 2014 to 2021, 111 games with 39 starts and 407 tackles. I like to think he created this legend...

Dallas Reynolds, OC (UFDA) - Started 14 of 16 games in 2012 for PHI (his only season there) but then went to the NYG from 2013 to 2015.

Scott Young, OG (2005 5th Rd) - The only BYU player ever actually drafted under Andy Reid. Appeared in 13 games over 3 seasons with PHI from 2005-2007. He did not play in 2005.

Reno Mahe, RB (UDFA) - 5 seasons with PHI from 2003 to 2007, 55 games with 1 start, primarily a kick/punt returner

Justin Ena, LB (UDFA) - Spent 3 seasons as a reserve in PHI in 2002, 2003, and 2005. Had 1 year in TEN where he had his most productive season, which isn't saying anything.

Lee Johnson, P (1985 5th Rd by Houston) - Spent the final year of his career (2002) in PHI at the age of 41 after spending most of it with HOU and CIN.

Chad Lewis, TE (UDFA Inherited from Ray Rhodes) - 9 seasons in PHI (spent 6 games with STL in 1999) with 110 games and 77 starts from 1997 to 2005.

Yeah - I did this earlier this year; I think when arguing with Wallcrawler over something stupid.

The idea that Reid loves BYU players is just a complete myth.

Here we go - from the Left Tackle thread:

Goddamn the "Andy Loves X" stuff is just always wrong. Dude doesn't love drafting fatties (though the draft pundits have been saying he does for over a decade now). He doesn't love players from BYU.

In his ENTIRE career he's drafted one player from BYU - a guard in the 5th round for the Eagles. He loved that guy so much he cut him before the end of his rookie contract. Chad Lewis was already an Eagle before Andy got there.

How much work are you really going to let Daniel Sorensen do here? Or is it the 1 game Matt Bushman played here? Or the 7 games Zayne Anderson played.

Andy has never demonstrated any particular affinity for players from BYU - it's just lazy sportswriter tripe that's somehow been spoken into fact.
It's just lazy nonsense.

Not the message this conveys.

The prevailing theory has been that he loves them and takes them with some regularity. The fact is that he does not, basically ever. He'll take an UDFA flier once in a while but that's it.

If he were to take a kid like Suamataia, it would be completely out of the norm and wouldn't speak to some affinity for BYU players. That simply doesn't exist.

I, more or less, put this here as a marker for each and every time someone foolishly claims he loves BYU.

It's just one more instance where I am 100% convinced that this chat board provides better information than literally every single 'major' source available online.

Because if you ask any draft schmuck if Andy Reid has a history of drafting BYU players, I virtually guarantee he'd say yes.

It's shocking to me how poorly informed so many guys with a microphone truly are.

I knew we hadn’t pulled the trigger on anyone early from BYU, but I had the preconceived notion that we always seemed to have at least one near the bottom of the roster with regularity. I learned something new today.

After looking at the years of the players, I guess I wasn’t wrong. From 2014-2023 we’ve had at least one. So every single year Reid has been here except for 2013.

Certainly that has no bearing on the early draft pick, though.
