Regardless the strength of the conference, no other program has done this...ever. Even some of those good programs in non power conferences. They couldn’t even do this. If the conference is so weak, someone else should’ve cleaned up against the other teams and taken it from us.

We have nothing to apologize for or explain. The streak is remarkable and will never be replicated. Whenever this ends, it will be a record that will never be broken.

Eh that may be true, but Big 12 teams haven't performed well in the NCAA tournament once they're there, although they usually send the most teams.

Do you think Kansas/Self would have this kind of streak going, playing in the ACC w/ Duke and UNC? I don't. And while both of those programs have had "down" years, Kansas has never really had to deal w/ playing another basketball titan in their conference.

But ....14 yrs in a row, in today's game as much parity there is in the sport. Hell there were only 25 teams in the NCAA tourney back in the Wooden era. Self's record in today's game is VERY impressive. This is one of those streaks in sports that probably won't ever be broken...or at least won't be broken for an awfully long time. The previous record UCLA (Wooden era) stood for nearly 40 yrs.

Would any other team in the NCAA have 14 straight in the Big 12? We won/shared the title against Blake Griffin, Kevin Durant, Buddy Hield, Trae Young, Michael Beasley, etc.

I dont know. It's possible Duke could've been able to accomplish the same had they played in the Big12. But just 1 top10 lottery stud usually doesn't win you the league, let alone get you very far in the NCAA tournament. Duke and UNC have 3-4 McDAA guys on their roster at all times year in and year out, and KU would have to compete w/ that, something they don't have to deal w/ very often w/ other Big12 teams. They already compete w/ those blue blood schools for recruits on a national scale, but it doesn't effect them in the league because they don't play eachother.

Most people judge this by the # of teams each conf sends to the NCAA Tournament, and without doing any real research on the subject and going by memory, I think the Big12 collectively over the years has sent more teams to the dance than any other conf (since Self has been coach of KU) They usually send 6-7 teams a year. For a while the Big East used to send a shit load of teams to the dance before the conference broken up.

So the 15-16 Duke team that finished 5th in the ACC behind Louisville, Miami, Virginia, and UNC would have won the Big XII? KU, West Virginia, and Oklahoma were comparable to those 4 that finished ahead of Duke that year (oklahoma went to the Final Four).

In 06-07. Duke finished 7th in the ACC and arguably shouldn't have even made the tourney... backed up by their loss to VCU in the 1st round.

No, i don't think Duke would have even come close.

Those two wins over TT and WVU on the road were monumental this season.

I think duke and UNC would have pulled it off if they replaced ku in the division. It is a great streak regardless.

That 15-16 Duke team was not good. West Virginia and the Final Four Oklahoma Team would have eaten them up that year.

There is no way either of those teams wins 14 in a row. They have had substantial down years

Eh. UNC has at least one NIT year in there. They’ve also had a couple other bad years in there too. Remember Roy only recruits every other year.

Duke has had a pretty consistent run. I’m not sure they could have dumped that Durant UT team. Those guys were good.
