*****The Patrick Mahomes Thread*****

IT ****ING HAPPENED

OP UPDATE:

Because of all the interest in this thread, I've place all of the video content of Patrick Mahomes II's college career, and draft day goodness into a single post that can be found here. Enjoy!

So true.

They hate that it’s the Chiefs and not some team the prefer to jerk off every chance they get.

It was amazing listening to the 'old guard' commentators who were mostly players in the 90s dump on KC.

I don't know that I ever heard it as obviously before. But for these guys, there's a clear caste system and the Chiefs don't deserve to be a part of it.

They're just so condescending towards the entire damn organization. If you're not one of the 5-7 teams they consider 'deserving' they'll just belittle everything the organization does.

These are guys who view the Vikings as a more 'traditional' powerhouse team than the Chiefs for some weird ass reason.

The Chiefs are just a sideshow for them. They're a team that exists so that the Cowboys can have someone to beat. Or the Patriots or Broncos or whoever. The Chiefs are just jumped-up Nouveau riche to their eyes.

It was just plain as day all of the sudden. It isn't that they're 'haters' who don't like the Chiefs or something. It's that they're snobs who don't think the Chiefs are worthy of respect or accomplishment.

Nail on the head.

And the funny part is the organization absolutely earned all of this. We didn’t get lucky and end up with the #1 overall pick to get our QB along with several years of picking early to stack our roster. They built all of this while being competitive.

There’s not a team in the NFL more deserving of being on top at the moment.

He got what he wanted. After 2026 he will have earned 225 mil. That's more than any football player ever. He also wants to chase Brady rings. The contract is not so huge each season that he can't year after year.

Listened to this live. It was great!

Best part is Mahomes’ laugh at the end as they sign off (last 30 seconds of video).

That's just the contrarian take. It seems smart or interesting to come on TV and explain why the highest sports contract ever is actually an underpay. The thing is, they'd actually be right if NFL contracts were guaranteed, because of course QB contracts will be much larger 5 years from now. But in reality this contract will probably be "renegotiated" in some small way every single off season. Any time the Chiefs need more cap room to sign someone, Mahomes will be the first one they call. Likewise, if Mahomes needs actual capital for any reason Veach can convert some of the salary on his deal into a signing bonus.

That's why you shouldn't get hung up on the actual amount of money. This deal is more of a symbolic union between the player and the organization as well as a PR move for Patrick. It's a contract that sounds so big that its actually gotten mainstream news coverage. This improves Mahomes' brand and actually makes him more marketable, because nowadays elite players are judged not just by their performance on the field but how they do off the field with their investments and endorsements. To the casual fan, this is just another record that Mahomes has broken, despite the fact that the $500 million number is meaningless.
