I know its a long shot but Its not unrealistic but why not Shurzer?.
Why are Waino, Holliday, Carp etc calling him if they don't think its a possibility, even if its a long shot. Numbers.............Follow along...... 2014 Opening day payroll: $111 Million 2011 Opening day payroll: $109 Million The Cardinals have pocketed some profits the last few years thanks to their young low paid talent. Goold says the Cardinals could afford a $150 payroll this year. Make the debt payments on the stadium and still profit $20 million. These $68.6 million salaries are coming off the books in the next few years 2015 Garcia's $9.375 million 2016 Holliday $17 million 2017 Peralta $10 milliom Molina $14.2 Million 2018 Wainwright $18.2 Million Committed payroll 2015 : $97,125 2016 : $72.700 2017 : $57.200 2018 : $33.250 Baseball has a new TV contract and license/sponsorship rates. Here's whats predicted for the cost or WAR.
So why can't we commit this new money to a top of the line pitcher. Thats $75 - $150 million of new money through 2020. We still have the cap space above to pay the other players. Again, why not pay Schurzer $25 million/7 years, $175 million total. We have the room to not hamstring us down the road. I'm thinking we realistically have 2 years left in the window. In 2017 Holliday is gone. Peralta, Molina and Waino are done or on their last legs. Why not give it our best shot to win another WS in the next two year window? We didn't make it to the World Series in 2012. But we did in 2013.
