A few months back, while in KC, my relatives took me to a dumpy old joint called Strouds that looked like it was converted from a house. Despite the exterior, the inside was hospitable. They had the best damn fried chicken I've ever eaten, and serve enough food to make Whitlock uncomfortable. I know the next time I'm in town, I'll desperately be searching for that place.

Has anyone else ever eaten there? Are they famous in town for their chicken, or am I just sheltered?

I've never made fried chicken in my entire life, but I'd put my first effort at fried chicken up against a chunk of Strouds' any day. Seriously.

What did you have in your mouth earlier that day?

Strouds used to have another slogan before "we choke our own chickens,"

something like, "The only people that don't like Strouds pan-fried chicken are those that smoke pole-NTTAWT".

I know the time we had it, it wasn't anywhere close to dry. The breasts were like biting into, um, something that's commonly thought to be very juicy.

I also know we went at an odd time where it wasn't very busy, so maybe we were lucky to get fresh, and you got some that had been sitting.
