Keep in mind, they paid Omenihu last year before drafting FAU, and they very likely don't re-sign Danna if Omenihu doesn't tear his ACL.

I think it's a pretty big assumption to assume this means anything negative about FAU. They clearly always had a plan for that inside/outside role in combination with FAU.

You’re correct. This is KC being opportunistic.

Essentially we traded Sneed for a 3rd, Wentz, CEH, Danna, and whoever else they pick-up with the $$ they have left.

The difference is that they signed Omenihu for 2 years so as FAU is coming on strong, Omenihu would be on his way out and Danna theoretically would be out. Signing Danna for 3 this year signifies something different to me. We'll see how it goes with snap counts for FAU.

The Danna deal looks more like a 2 year deal. Just a year more than Omeniihu's.

I think you're overthinking it.

Why are people acting like you only need two outside passrushers?

It's really odd, especially in today's NFL.

This is what teams like the Eagles and 49ers do year in and year out.

Felix was a very raw player who has potential for a high ceiling. He reminds me a lot of Dee Ford (minus the back injury concerns). He was on the ground a lot in college and needed to get stronger.

Like Dee Ford, his athleticism was really good. His 6.94 3 cone would have been first for DE’s at the combine this year and his 20 shuttle would have been 3rd.

He was always a developmental pick

There's a difference between a guy developing at a normal pace and a guy who is inactive in the playoffs. If he was a true rotational player last year and just getting less snaps than the starters, that's one thing, but he only played 20% of snaps last year and that was a year in which Omenihu missed 6 whole games. And then after that he was inactive in the playoffs and only got 7 snaps after Omenihu tore his ACL. No one expects that from a 1st round pick. And that's why they're bringing both guys back that were ahead of him on the depth chart. Hopefully he can show something while Omenihu works his way back from injury though.

He was a 21 year old rookie on the best defense in the league. It was clearly a RS year for a guy that is the complete opposite of a guy like Karlaftis.

You get two types of players at valuable positions like DE picking at the end of round 1. You get a high floor prospect that can contribute right away like Karlaftis, or you get a guy that has the more coveted traits, but needs development.

Just look at all the edge rushers drafted in that range last year. It doesn't matter whether it's FAU, Nolan Smith, or Myles Murphy. That's typically what you get when you take a big swing on an edge at the end of the 1st.

This is why I laughed at your belief that if the Chiefs draft a LT at 32, you expect a day 1 starter. You have no idea how any of this works, and therefor, your expectations are on the unrealistic side. If they draft a guy like Jordan Morgan? Sure, it would be fair to expect him to be ready to start at some point in year 1. But Kingsley Suamataia? He'd be a bigger swing, and a guy that likely needs more development to be a starting LT.

OT is one of those positions like DE, if they're a guaranteed day 1 starter, they aren't making it to pick 32.

Now if he's inactive or playing few snaps week 1, or when/if Omenihu comes back, it's fair to be completely frustrated with his development. The problem is that you're so eager to jump to that that you're making assumptions based on a minor contract for a guy that has always been more of a rotational guy for us, and the money reflects that (albeit a high quality one).

I agree with this which is why I wouldn't want to spend a 1st round pick on a guy that plays tackle that is not expected to start.

2nd round is where I would look at drafting a guy you think is close not quite ready, but has incredible talent and measurable.

Normally you want a 2nd round pick to start but because of the value of LT and how expensive they are when they can play I would be fine with a 2nd round spent this way.

While true, that 1st round 5th year option is a nice piece in the back pocket for a pretty cheap controllable 5th year at pick 32 vs no option in the 2nd round

Fingers crossed. He's really young and everyone knew he was raw coming out. This wasn't unexpected. We got really lucky with the Greek Phreak learning on the job year 1 and really producing after week 8. That's not often the case for the more raw guys...
