Why not? Never understood this obsessive worry. Unless we think our GM is dumber than theirs. I don't.

In all actuality once Jones is gone the Chiefs may carry 4 NT types and shift DE's inside when they want pass rush out of the spot.

Good school. Fairly high round pick on rookie contract for a 6th rounder.

Seems like a steal to me.

Oakland perspective: why should we trade a decent player to a superior rival?

KC perspective: how good is this guy if they're willing to trade him to us and they've been garbage for nearly a half decade?

I don’t see why it would be 4.

The nt types would
Be used first down and sometimes second and almost never third.

You’d really need a lot of de for this type of scheme and maybe 2-3 legit nt fatties

Because ends like Jones are extremely difficult to find, the idea is to stuff the middle no matter what.

I read somewhere that Ziegler told Farrell that he would get him a Super Bowl ring. I think this is just following thru on that promise.

I bet Veach had a somewhat high grade on him coming out of LSU and made the call thinking Cullen could get more out of him than the Raiders could.

Yup.

Could just be indicative of a scheme shift. You don't replace Chris Jones - he's pretty much a unicorn.

Instead you just clog the shit out of the middle, tell them to shove their asses off, use 2 to occupy 3 and give yourselves a numbers advantage.

You may see some twists/curls with LBs off the edge, but in this scenario, I can't imagine you'll be seeing many interior stunts, etc...

Without Jones, you don't try to do the same thing with a guy who ISN'T Jones. You just do a new thing. That new thing may just be 3 NTs and a guy like Wharton or Dana who can sub in as a NASCAR DT and then you just hope your edge rushers are developing.

Man, they're asking a LOT from FAU at the moment. And they sure seem to be leaning into Karlaftis as a 10 sack guy.

This is kinda why this whole Jones thing just seems so out of left field.

With him in the fold, you've got 3 really good chess pieces to move around with FAU, Karlaftis and Omenihu. You've got the new kid they drafted this year to develop as well.

Then this happens. It seems like a real blindsided them kinda thing cause they defense has been really built around him.
