good to see Denver isn't horsing around. They should be stable for the next 5 years as long as the contracts he negotiates doesn't saddle them with a ton of dead money.

Good for KC. Good for the rest of the AFC West.

You guys think he sucks? He became GM in 2011. They missed the playoffs for the five years before that, and since then they have made the playoffs 5 out of 6 years, won the division all five of those years, went to the SB twice, and won it once, while building perhaps the best defense in the NFL.

Who is this GM you speak of?

You'd think he was in our division.

In looking at the Dorsey era in another thread, I looked at every team's drafts over the past four years. Here are Elway's drafts:

2017 1 Garett Bolles OT
2017 2 DeMarcus Walker DE
2017 3 Carlos Henderson WR
2017 3 Brendan Langley CB
2017 5 Jake Butt TE
2017 5 Isaiah McKenzie WR
2017 6 De'Angelo Henderson RB
2017 7 Chad Kelly QB

Year Rnd Player Pos
2016 1 Paxton Lynch QB
2016 2 Adam Gotsis DT
2016 3 Justin Simmons FS
2016 4 Devontae Booker RB
2016 5 Connor McGovern G
2016 6 Andy Janovich FB
2016 6 Will Parks S
2016 7 Riley Dixon P

Year Rnd Player Pos
2015 1 Shane Ray DE
2015 2 Ty Sambrailo T
2015 3 Jeff Heuerman TE
2015 4 Max Garcia C
2015 5 Lorenzo Doss CB
2015 6 Darius Kilgo NT
2015 7 Trevor Siemian QB
2015 7 Taurean Nixon DB
2015 7 Josh Furman DB

Year Rnd Player Pos
2014 1 Bradley Roby DB
2014 2 Cody Latimer WR
2014 3 Michael Schofield OL
2014 5 Lamin Barrow LB
2014 6 Matt Paradis OL
2014 7 Corey Nelson LB

Year Rnd Player Pos
2013 1 Sylvester Williams DT
2013 2 Montee Ball RB
2013 3 Kayvon Webster DB
2013 5 Quanterus Smith DE
2013 5 Tavarres King WR
2013 6 Vinston Painter G
2013 7 Zac Dysert QB

He got a bunch of free agents who climbed aboard the Manning Marketing Machine, but Manning no longer exists. They'll need to start relying on the draft, and that means Elway's sharp eye identifying the next Quanterus Smith or Lamin Barrow or Darius Kilgo.

Yeah, not great, no arguments. A few good players -- Paradis especially was a steal (I didn't know he was a 6th round pick) -- but overall, pretty meh.

But he has CLEARLY shown talent for handlign the FA market -- both deciding which players to pay/keep, and which ones to let go, plus which ones to bring in. He's done it well enough to build a truly terrific defense, and an offense with some pretty decent skill position players. Only problem is one that about 25 NFL teams have -- lack of elite (or at least consistently good) QB play.

Meh -- I'd still rather have him leaving Denver to go back to selling cars or whatever. He's proven effective, unfortunately, overall.
