Spencer Ware vs Damien Williams

Talked to some folks debating whether or not Williams looked more dynamic than Ware today. What say you CP? Any chance Williams ends up getting more snaps than Ware? Time for a Rainman poll?

Those are six of Kareem Hunt's 27 career games. Let's not act like he was some kind of monster every week.
Kareem’s impact as a receiver is what makes him much better than Ware at this point in time.

I'd like to see an even split moving forward. I think various dumb assholes are underrating Ware, but he's definitely not as fast as Williams, and this is an offense that runs on speed.

Ware can’t get to the edge. The couple plays that went outside were stopped for a few yards where Hunt may have taken them for 10-20.

But there will be adjustments. Hopefully D Williams gets more chances and keeps his average up.

As long as we have the offense not shooting itself in the foot we’ll be fine.

Yes.

I don't think, at any point, YPC is or has been the determining factor on the quality of a pass catcher.

When Ware is making over the shoulder catches for 50+ yards I'll say he's as good. Until then, no.

Also, Hunt: 10 Receiving TD's.

Ware: 2 receiving TD's.

That's an odd stat to cherry pick to try and make that argument.

Must be why guys like Tyreek Hill, Mike Williams, Josh Gordon, Brandon Cooks, Julio Jones, and Gronkowski are all in the top 20. But I always thought the best way to score was to gain yards.

So highest YPC = Top WR in the NFL? I said DETERMINING FACTOR. You're talking about one statistical category in a vacuum.

No. It's silly. Stop it. Ware is not as good in the passing game as Hunt.

Does that make James Lofton better than Jerry Rice?

Then what is? Catch rate? When Ware last qualified, in 2016, his catch rate was 76.1%. Hunt's was 74.3% this year, (but higher in '17).

So if Ware catches more passes for more yards with a similar sample, how is he worse?

I do think people kind of forget that Ware was a VERY productive back for us until he got hurt. He does look slow to the eye test, so I still kind of think he's lost a step since then. But I have no issue in considering him our feature back at this point.

I think that a rotation with him taking the bulk could be very productive.

He can line up in more positions/run more routes, catches a higher rate (better hands), scores more TD's in the red zone, and can make longer plays which is highlighted by the fact that he has multiple 50+ yard receptions and Ware has 0.

Oh, and he was averaging 14.5 yards per catch this year. Do you think Ware will match or beat that?

Wanna make a good natured bet that he won't?

I'll say what I've continued to say: He'll give you 80-90% what Hunt would have, because historically, he's been at least that good. Truth is, that most people want to bitch about Ware because it's a conduit for them to complain about Hunt getting cut.
