Is the NFL and its refs out to "get us"?

You conspiracy nuts need to stop this crap. The game wasn't fixed. This poor old me routine on here is getting old.

The NFL loves the Chiefs and Mahomes. They are the exact team they want playing in the NFL. GMF is nothing but a Mahomes lovefest every morning. All of the NFL network shows tout Mahomes and the Chiefs offense. They flexed us into two straight weeks on SNF. Its so obvious other teams fans are bitching about the constant Mahomes/Chiefs love fest. But, they are out to get us?

Another one is the NFL doesnt want a small market winning the SB. Are these conspiracy nuts paying attention? Small markets don't matter if your the big dog. Rogers in GB, Manning in Indy, Hello....evidence you can see with your own eyes.

With all this evidence we can see on a daily basis, somehow you get the idea that the NFL wants the Chiefs to lose. That makes no sense. They are not out to "get us". The NFL is promoting the shit out of us on a daily basis. This conspiracy BS is just that, BS.

The NFL is a money making machine. Lenny Dawson made $30,000 a year when he played. He was “rich”. Had to work at a real job in the off season. How many years ago was that?

Today? The TRAINERS make over $250,000 per year - the TRAINERS. If you can’t see where this is going - you might rethink your position on corporate “greed”......

Again, I’m not claiming “fixing”....But I am claiming that whatever the hell it takes to improve the profit margin each year to pay for a $120 million player - they WILL do that.
Why do businesses exist? When you can answer that question, then ask yourself what is probably the biggest risk to the NFL's future earning potential. When you answer that question, you will understand why this conspiracy that the games are fixed is dumb.

You asked and answered your own question. Again, I do NOT believe that there is wholesale “fixing” - but there is long term profit and loss potential.

Whatever the hell makes the NFL more money - they WILL do it. Just like AT&T, Just like GE, and a host of other multi-billion dollar companies... Whatever it takes.

If you choose to take “rigging” out of the equation, after the trials, after the scandals, after the mob influence of the 60s, after Vegas - then there is nothing I can do to help you. You are saying (the owners) wish to increase their profit each year yet you discount the “possibility” of underhanded actions to “help” that equation along. I submit that it is YOU who are short-sighted.

Funny thing about white collar crime - it ALWAYS hides right in plain sight.

I agree that "stars" get different and better treatment. But, thats in all sports. A veteran baseball pitcher that has a reputation for control, gets the called strikes on the corner that the rookie doesn't. etc. Thats not a conspiracy, thats human nature.

In the NFL, its a "star" thing, not small market vs. big market.
As I said, its star driven, not big city market driven. We have Mahomes so we are going to get the breaks in the next 10 years, not because he plays for the Chiefs. All sports are "star" driven in 2018. This isn't a NFL alone issue either. If Brady/Bellicheck had been in Clevland, they would have won multiple Super Bowls in that city.
Will have to agree to disagree. I've seen too much BS by the refs to view this any other way. The number of people opening their eyes to it should concern the NFL.

No its pretty much luck where we have to finish the same finish in our divisions the previous year.

By the way we will be playing in New England next year again as it looks.

Whatever it is, Refs need to just call what they see instead of getting involved in their games.
Not going to happen....they need ratings for the entire game. The need to show the advertisers that investing in the 4th quarter of a game is worth it.

This all started the moment the NFL signed a multi-billion dollar deal...advertising drives the NFL now. It's not really a sport anymore...just a delivery vehicle to abuse your eyeballs with products you dont really need.

It is legal for the media to lie to us all. Not just in the realm of sports, but in every aspect of journalism and mass media. Don't believe me?

The New York Times recently admitted that it -- and virtually every major media outlet -- allows the government to censor its work. The jaw-dropping article/admission can be found here (the full piece is embedded within the linked article).

If this can occur, do you honestly believe that ESPN/ABC/Disney, CBS, FOX, NBC/Universal and Time Warner (which owns TBS, TNT and Sports Illustrated) report truly and accurately on the professional sports world which they fund?

Four of these five mass media conglomerates give the NFL alone $6 billion a season. Are they then going to turn around and investigation any improprieties within the league that threatens those investments? Especially when they are able to legally lie to their consumers while censoring the work of individuals who may be committed to reporting the truth?

As Karl Taro Greenfeld recent wrote in Businessweek, "In a real sense, ESPN no longer covers sports. It controls sports."

With all of this being true, what then is preventing a league -- or all of the leagues -- from fixing the outcome of their own games to maximize profit and revenue which is the very reason why they put on these exhibitions?

The short answer is obvious: Nothing.

And maybe again in 2021. Holy shit that year is gonna suck. We play the Steelers, cowboys, and giants, maybe the Patriots, but they all will be at home.

You understand that there are literally hundreds of media outlets not controlled by the major networks. The public being shown that the NFL fixes games or tries to control outcomes would be devastating to the league. The risk of that happening far outweighs any profits that could be gained by these actions. The NFL makes huge sums of money without manipulating their product. Why in the world would they risk losing it all?
