*****The Patrick Mahomes Thread*****

IT ****ING HAPPENED

OP UPDATE:

Because of all the interest in this thread, I've place all of the video content of Patrick Mahomes II's college career, and draft day goodness into a single post that can be found here. Enjoy!

He's talking on the subject of interceptions and QB's. He's speaking on Sam Darnold, but it applies to Patrick Mahomes as well. Worth a listen.

This is one of the examples where Cowherd shows his brilliance. Not all that common, but the analogies are great.

Basically said that interceptions are the bi-product of quarterbacks that take chances, and that most of the great ones do.

The stat that stood out to me was that, once Peyton goes into the Hall of Fame, 7 of the 10 all-time NFL interceptions leaders will be in the Hall of Fame. Favre is #1.

Prick or not, he's right and brings a strong argument to the table.

tl;dw:

Don't worry about INTS. The great ones didn't. He even illustrates how even in year 4 Peyton Manning was still throwing 20+ ints.

Interceptions are the contextual turnover. How and why a dude was picked off matters much more than the total amount of times he gets picked off.

Yup. Just the most obvious example

You're up by 7 in the redzone. QB throws a pick 6 the other way. 14 swing. Now instead of a 14 point lead, the game is tied.

Compare to 3rd and 17 from the opponents 40. QB throws a pick at the 20 yard line. No big deal. Functionally no different than punting the ball into the endzone on the next down.

I still think the best and most demoralizing turnover is the sack-and-strip.

My biggest thing is does the QB learn from his mistakes. Sure....throw an interception into double coverage. But does he come back two drives later and make the same mistake? Does he make that same mistake over and over again?

When Colin has a solid point, he's great.

The problem is he wanders into subjects he doesn't really know or understand on occasion and when he does he displays the same confidence in his hot takes and it makes him look like a fool.

His takes on college basketball, for instance, are asinine.

I expect him to make the same, or very similar mistakes for awhile. But i don't think it's indictment on his development, but rather a willingness to make a play.

No. It's more like marrying a supermodel and then complaining that she spends more money on clothes and salon visits than your middle-aged ex wife.

I respect Cowherd's show, but he can be a biased idiot at times. He says people shouldn't judge Darnold on Int's but yet today he decided that our Chiefs will be "8-8" this season because Pat threw one the other day and "QB's need to be efficient". The guy is all over the place.
