I think we're in BETTER shape than we were at the end of the 2018 season.
I really do. I think the bus is in the shop for some new tires and a paintjob touch-up and I'll be rolling it back out in September. Feel free to hop on board!

In that offseason, we had to scrap a terrible defense, including dismantling "sack nation" which somehow led the league in sacks but couldn't stop anyone. We had to get a new coordinator, new coaches, find someone to take Dee Ford, and Houston, and cut Berry, and get basically a whole new defense in place.

After we cut Clark and Hitchens, pay one of the younger FA stud safeties coming on the market instead of an aging Mathieu, extend Hill, etc.-we should be in decent shape to grab a couple of consistent, dependable vets to pair with some draftees and youngsters on the D-line.

We need some explosiveness at RB and WR2, could use some competition at RT.

Otherwise the offense is pretty well set.

We're in good shape.

In 2018, there were so many unknown unknowns. This team knows a lot more now than it did then.

We're going to be fine. We'll be right back in the hunt in 2022!

After 2018 we hosted three AFC Championships, went to two and won one Super Bowl. I’d say there is zero chance we are that successful in the next three seasons. I think we look back at this season in two years and really regret not cashing in.

I'll always appreciate Sorenson for his 2019 postseason plays alone. I sincerely feel we don't get past the Texans without him on the field. Turns out he was too small to play linebacker and too slow to play safety.

I'll be honest - I always pulled for Niemann. He played at Iowa with my daughter's boyfriend's best friend up there and I was hoping he could grow into a solid contributor. He played a TON of snaps for us on defense this year but was never a guy that could wreck a play. Good luck to him going forward. Him and Sorenson.

That's true. Personnel didn't change much though. Clark and Jones just didn't play well enough this year. Ingram was an improvement from Suggs in 2019.

I think there's a good chance this is the case. In retrospect, our general health this last season was incredibly lucky too. Besides being down to our third string RT, we were damn near 100% healthy in the Championship game.

We really squandered another great opportunity.

I completely agree with ALL of it. You're right in that it's not nearly as daunting of a task as it was in 2018. After cuts and restructures, the $$ will be there to add the pieces.

IMO, the explosive RB is a VERY important piece for a few reasons. I've heard people argue that our RB JAGS were fine in the AFCCG because of their YPC average, and I've heard the argument that Reid won't run even if we do have a stud RB. Well an explosive RB fixes both. Just to be able to have legit threat at RB capable to take it to the house on any given play not only changes how defenses play the Chiefs, but it also makes the MOST of limited opportunities in the running game. If we had a Kareem Hunt type, we RUN it more than ONCE from the 6 yard line at the end of the game. Anyone want to bet against him scoring? And whose to say that when our JAGS manage to rip off their occasional 10+ yard run, that an explosive RB wouldn't take it to the house. Our OL was blasting some pretty big holes in defenses all year, and also in Cinn during the AFCCG. There is no doubt in my mind, that an explosive RB would have taken a couple to the house.

Big part of that run included Childress and Nagy. So much they got snatched up by Chicago. I wouldn't mind seeing Nagy come back.
